Subtask 72-21-01-350-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Repair the Fan Case Rubstrip
   (1) Find the fan case rubstrip attached to the inner surface of the fan case.
   (2) Install the MAT - PROTECTIVE in the air intake cowl and the fan case inner surfaces.
   (3) If you cannot get access to the repair area, remove the minimum number of fan blades as necessary to do the repair (Ref. AMM TASK 72-11-03-000-801).
   (4) Clean the repair area with P11-078alcohol, isopropyl or acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-804).
   (5) Prepare the repair area as follows:
     (a) Remove the loose or damaged rubstrip material. The cut face must be smooth.
     (b) Remove only the minimum quantity of material necessary to remove the damaged area and to make sure that you cannot see the bond layer between the rubstrip material and the septum.
     (c) Rout out any cracks in the rubstrip and remove only the minimum quantity of material to make sure that you cannot see the bond layer and septum.
   (6) Inspect the repair area as follows:
     (a) Visually examine the area to make sure that the septum cannot be seen.
     (b) Visually examine for cracks in the bond layer between the rubstrip material and the septum.
     (c) Visually examine the area to make sure that you cannot see the bond layer between the rubstrip material and the septum.
     (d) If the damage is more than the limits specified in steps 4.A.(6)(a), 4.A.(6)(b) and 4.A.(6)(c), replace the thermal conform layer.
     (e) If additional damage is found along the trailing edge of the rubstrip, and extends into the aft RTV seal, contact Pratt & Whitney.
   (7) Clean the repair area with P11-078alcohol, isopropyl or acetone (Material No.P11-065) .
   (8) Remove the discolored material, burrs and surface dirt with the P05-146abrasive paper, silicon carbide, P05-253paper, abrasive or P05-274paper, abrasive and make a smooth, matte surface for the bond in the repaired area.
   (9) Vacuum or brush the surface to remove debris.
   (10) Clean the repair area with P11-078alcohol, isopropyl or acetone (Material No.P11-065) .
     (a) Let the repair area dry for a minimum of ten minutes.
   (11) Mix the sealing mixture 100 parts by weight of liquid epoxy resin (Material No.P08-002) to 25 parts by weight of P08-012epoxy resin curing agent (amine type).
     (a) It is permitted to use P08-036resin and curing agent, liquid epoxy as an alternative.
     (b) You must apply the sealing mixture in less than 15 minutes after it is mixed.
     (c) You must limit the amount of sealing mixture (if cartridges are not used) to 7.05 oz (199.86 g) to prevent too much exotherming (heat build up).
     (d) If the repair area is next to a wear depth measurement hole, do not fill the hole with sealing mixture.
   (12) Apply a thin layer of the sealing mixture onto the repair area with the BRUSH - BRISTLED.
     (a) It is permitted to use P11-078alcohol, isopropyl to make the sealing mixture thinner to make it easier to apply.
   (13) Let the sealing mixture cure at room temperature until it is tacky and does not sag.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE A HEATER TO ASSEMBLE PARTS. USE GLOVES WHEN YOU TOUCH OR LIFT THE HEATER OR THE PARTS. THE HEATER OR THE PARTS CAN BE HOT AND CAUSE BURNS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, INJURY TO PERSONNEL CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Use the GUN - HOT AIR set to a maximum of 200 deg.F (93.33 deg.C) to cure the sealing mixture quickly, if necessary.
NOTE: Too much heat can make the mixture not tacky in a short amount of time.
   (14) If the sealing mixture is not tacky, do the steps that follow:
     (a) Use the P05-076abrasive paper, silicon carbide waterproof or P05-274paper, abrasive to make a smooth matte surface.
     (b) Clean the repair area with P11-078alcohol, isopropyl or acetone (Material No.P11-065) .
     (c) Let the repair area dry for a minimum of ten minutes.
   (15) Measure the P08-030epoxy potting compound (two component type) 100 parts by weight Part B (Blue) and 94 parts by weight Part A (White). Mix the two parts until a constant blue color shows with no streaks.
     (a) You must apply the sealing mixture in less than 15 minutes after it is mixed.
   (16) Apply the sealing mixture with the KNIFE - PUTTY or other equivalent tool.
     (a) Repair the rubstrip to the initial height or to a maximum of 0.040 in. (1.02 mm) above the adjacent rubstrip surfaces.
     (b) Use a clean, warm tool to remove unwanted sealing mixture from the repaired areas.
   (17) Cure the applied sealing mixture with one of the procedures that follow:
     (a) Cure the applied sealing mixture for a minimum of 16 hours at room temperature.
     (b) Cure the applied sealing mixture for two hours in an oven set between 135 deg.F (57.22 deg.C) and 165 deg.F (73.89 deg.C).
   (18) When the sealing mixture becomes hard, make it smooth to the adjacent contour as follows:
     (a) Make the filler surface smooth and flush with the adjacent flowpath surfaces with the ABRASIVE PAPER -120 GRIT, P05-253paper, abrasive, the ABRASIVE PAPER - 80 GRIT, P05-274paper, abrasive or equivalent.
     (b) The repair surface can be a maximum of 0.040 in. (1.02 mm) above the adjacent rubstrip surface.
     (c) The transition from the repaired surface to the adjacent surface must be smooth and continuous.
   (19) Install the fan blades as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 72-11-03-400-801).
   (20) Remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE.
   (21) Examine the assembly for foreign object, damage and correct assembly.
5. Close-up
