A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M (3 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 72-21-01-390-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Repair the Fan Case V-Groove Air Seal
   (1) Find the fan case at the front end of the engine.
   (2) Remove the damaged air seal and silicone sealant from the outer V-groove or the V-groove rear face of the fan case assembly with the SCRAPER - PLASTIC. Remove all remaining silicone sealant with the P05-421pad, scrub or P05-422pad, scrub and abrade the repair area and seal ends.
   (3) Clean the repair area by SPOP 208 solvent wipe, with acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-804).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THERE ARE NO UNCURED PAINTS, UNCURED EPOXY, OILS, POWDER, FUMES, DUST AND OTHER DEBRIS ON THE REPAIR AREA
  • THERE IS NO CONTAMINATION ON THE MATERIALS, TOOLINGS, FIXTURES AND HANDLING EQUIPMENT USED.
CONTAMINATION OF THE REPAIR AREA, THE MATERIALS AND/OR THE EQUIPMENT WILL HAVE AN UNWANTED EFFECT ON THE BONDING, SEALING AND FILLING QUALITY. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS CAUTION, SEAL SEPARATION AND LOSS OF BOND CAN OCCUR.
   (4) Apply a chromate conversion coat to all aluminum surfaces of the repaired area without protection by SPOP 42 (Ref. AMM TASK 70-28-00-910-803).
     (a) Do not anodize touch up the titanium alloy surfaces.
   (5) Bond the new air seal to the repair area(s) with the P09-014sealant, silicone rubber or P09-027sealant, silicone rubber as follows:
CAUTION: DO NOT ABRADE MATING PARTS TOO MUCH. AFTER YOU CLEANED THE PARTS, USE CLEAN GLOVES WHEN YOU TOUCH OR MOVE THEM. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE PARTS CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Abrade the bond surfaces of the seal by wipe method, with a non-metallic grit cloth (Material No.P05-131) to remove the shine and to give the surface a smooth matte appearance.
       1 Before and after abrasion, clean the repair area to remove all grit, dirt, other debris and fingerprints by SPOP 208 solvent wipe, with acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-804).
     (b) Apply the P09-014sealant, silicone rubber or P09-027sealant, silicone rubber to the bottom of the V−groove in sufficient quantity to let the sealant squeeze out and up the sides of the V−groove.
     (c) Install the seal on the applied sealant in 18.0 in. (0.46 m) increments around the V-groove circumference.
     (d) Trim the seal at the ends to get a close fit.
     (e) Remove the remaining sealant by SPOP 208 solvent wipe, with acetone (Material No.P11-065) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-27-00-910-804).
     (f) Apply a suitable cover or P05-373polyethylene sheet, barrier material over (without touching) the sealant to keep surfaces clean while the sealant cures and changes color to the cured state.
     (g) Cure the P09-014sealant, silicone rubber or P09-027sealant, silicone rubber for 24 hours minimum to between 60 deg.F (15.56 deg.C) and 90 deg.F (32.22 deg.C) before you touch it.
     (h) Make sure that the ends of the air seal remain open and unblocked after cure.
   (6) Examine the assembly for foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.

   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-802):

   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
