Removal of the Forward Fan Cowl Hold Open Rod
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
DO NOT REMOVE THE HOLD OPEN RODS TOGETHER. YOU MUST KEEP ONE HOLD OPEN ROD IN POSITION. IF NOT, THE COWL DOORS CAN CLOSE QUICKLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE COWL.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE THE FAN COWL DOOR SLING TO HOLD EACH FAN COWL IN THE OPEN POSITION. IF THE SLING IS NOT USED, THE COWL WILL NOT BE HELD CORRECTLY AND CAN CLOSE QUICKLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE COWL.
CAUTION:
DO NOT EXTEND THE SLATS WHEN THE FAN COWLS AND THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS ARE OPEN. IF YOU DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN OCCUR.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 71-13-12-010-061-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

A. Removal of the Filler Plugs
(1) Remove the filler plugs from the lower hoist points of the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for the installation.
(2) Remove the filler plugs from the upper hoist points of the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for the installation.
Subtask 71-13-12-480-051-A (1) Remove the filler plugs from the lower hoist points of the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for the installation.
(2) Remove the filler plugs from the upper hoist points of the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for the installation.
B. Installation of the Tooling
(1) Install the universal attach pad in the hoist points of the fan cowl door with the pad universal attach screw.
Subtask 71-13-12-080-054-A (1) Install the universal attach pad in the hoist points of the fan cowl door with the pad universal attach screw.
NOTE: The universal attach pad is part of the 98N7110H001-000 FAN COWL HOISTING DEVICE.
(2) Lift the door with the related equipment, sufficiently to get access to the Hold Open Rod (HOR). C. Removal of the Access Platform
(1) If necessary, remove the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE to get access to the forward HOR (1) or (12).
Subtask 71-13-12-020-058-A (1) If necessary, remove the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE to get access to the forward HOR (1) or (12).
D. Removal of the Forward Fan Cowl HOR
(1) Remove and discard the pin:
(2) Remove the bolt (7), plain bush (8), washer (9) and nut (10) from the engine fitting.
(3) Remove and discard the pin:
(4) Remove the bolt (3) or (13), plain bush (2) or (14), washer (4) or (15) and nut (5) or (16) from the fan cowl door fitting.
(5) Remove the forward HOR (1) or (12) from the fan cowl door.
(1) Remove and discard the pin:
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(a) Remove and discard the pin (11) from the nut (10). (2) Remove the bolt (7), plain bush (8), washer (9) and nut (10) from the engine fitting.
(3) Remove and discard the pin:
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(a) Remove and discard the pin (6) or (17) from the nut (5) or (16). (4) Remove the bolt (3) or (13), plain bush (2) or (14), washer (4) or (15) and nut (5) or (16) from the fan cowl door fitting.
(5) Remove the forward HOR (1) or (12) from the fan cowl door.
