B. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):

(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) is in position.
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) is in position.
CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 71-13-07-840-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Preparation of the Area for Installation
(1) Clean the bolts (2) and (4) with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist withPU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803).
(a) RemovePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl from the hardware with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries.
(2) Clean around the fan cowl surface where the strake (1) or (7) will be attached with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist withPU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803).
(a) RemovePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl from the surface with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries.
(3) Clean mating surfaces of the two pin (3) heads and the strake (1) or (7) with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist withPU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803).
(a) RemovePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl from the surfaces with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries.
(4) Clean around the backing plate surface where the washers (5) and the nuts (6) will be installed with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist withPU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803).
(a) RemovePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl from the surface with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries.

B. Installation of the Strake (1) on the Left Fan Cowl Door
(1) Remove the finish from below the two pins (3) on the strake (1) about 1.5 times the diameter of the pins (3). UsePU1-0045 abrasive paper, aluminum oxide, 220-grit or finer abrasive paper.
(2) Remove the finish from below the washers (5) on the backing plate about 1.5 times the diameter of the washers (5). UsePU1-0045 abrasive paper, aluminum oxide, 220-grit or finer abrasive paper.
(3) Clean the rubbed areas with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist withPU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803).
(a) RemovePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(4) Apply a thin layer of the bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant to the bare aluminum surfaces.
(a) If you apply more than one stripe of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant:
1 Make sure that the subsequent stripes have a 50 percent overlap with the stripe you applied before.
2 Let the sealant dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
3 Apply bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant to the bare metal surface within three hours after you remove the finish on the metal.
(a) Apply the second layer 90 degrees to the direction of the strokes of the first layer.
(b) If you apply more than one stripe of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant:
1 Make sure that the subsequent stripes have a 50 percent overlap with the stripe you applied before.
2 Let the sealant dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
3 Apply the second layer of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant within five minutes after the first layer dries.
PU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803).
(a) RemovePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries.
1 Install the fasteners within two hours after you clean them.
(8) Attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door with the nine bolts (4).
(a) Tighten the bolts (4) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (4) at this time.
(9) Attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door with the 15 bolts (2).
(a) Tighten the bolts (2) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (2) at this time.
(10) Measure the distance between the edge of the strake (1) and the surface of the fan cowl door.
(a) Record the areas where the strake (1) and the fan cowl do not touch, where the distance is between 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.050 in. (1.27 mm) and where the distance is more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm).
(11) Remove the 15 bolts (2) and the nine bolts (4) that attach the strake (1) to the fan cowl door.
(a) Remove the strake (1) from the fan cowl door.
(12) Prepare the strake (1) for installation:
(a) If the distance between the strake (1) and the fan cowl door is less than 0.030 in. (0.76 mm), apply a layer of thePU3-0006 adhesive, epoxy paste or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) to a little more than the distance you measured in step 4.B.(10).
(b) If the distance is more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm), contact United Technologies Aerospace Systems for instructions.
(c) If the distance is between 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.050 in. (1.27 mm), do the following:
1 Make a laminated shim from aluminum laminated shim stock (Material No.PU1-0068) to fit the area.
2 Adjust the shim thickness to approximately the distance that you measured in step 4.B.(10).
3 MixPU4-0002 epoxy primer, fluid resistant or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803), PU4-0004A curing solution, epoxy primer and thinner (Material No.PU4-0005) , thinner (Material No.PU4-0008) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) together. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
4 ApplyPU4-0002 epoxy primer, fluid resistant or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) mixture to the surface of the laminated shim. Allow the epoxy to dry to the touch. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
5 Put the laminated shim on the strake (1) withPU3-0006 adhesive, epoxy paste on it to fill in the distance.
(13) ApplyPU4-0002 epoxy primer, fluid resistant or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) mixture on the shank of the bolts (2) and (4).
(a) Do not apply sealant on the threads of the bolts (2) and (4).
(14) Put the strake (1) with the shims andPU3-0006 adhesive, epoxy paste on the left fan cowl door above the bolt holes for the strake (1).
(15) Attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door with the nine bolts (4).
(a) Tighten the bolts (4) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (4) at this time.
(16) Attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door with the 15 bolts (2).
(a) Tighten the bolts (2) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (2) at this time.
(17) TORQUE the 24 bolts (2) and (4) to between 33 and 30 lbf.in (0.37 and 0.34 m.daN )
.
(18) IfPU3-0006 adhesive, epoxy paste comes out from between the strake (1) and the fan cowl door when you torque the bolts (2) and (4), clean the adhesive with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist with PU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803).
(19) Install the two pins (3), the two washers (5) and the two nuts (6) that attach the strake (1) to the fan cowl door.
(a) TORQUE the nuts (6) to between 33 and 30 lbf.in (0.37 and 0.34 m.daN )
.
(20) Measure the resistance between the head of the two pins (3) and the surface of the strake.
(a) Make sure that the resistance is 0.0025 ohms or less.
(b) If the resistance at a pin is too high, remove the pin (3), washer (5) and nut (6) and do steps 4.B.(1) thru 4.B.(5) and steps 4.B.(19) thru 4.B.(20) again.
(21) Measure the resistance between the tail of the two pins (3) and the backing plate on the inboard side of the fan cowl door.
(a) Make sure that the resistance is 0.0025 ohms or less.
(b) If the resistance at a pin is too high, remove the pin (3), washer (5) and nut (6) and do steps 4.B.(1) thru 4.B.(5) and steps 4.B.(19) thru 4.B.(21) again.
Subtask 71-13-07-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the finish from below the two pins (3) on the strake (1) about 1.5 times the diameter of the pins (3). Use

(3) Clean the rubbed areas with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist with

(4) Apply a thin layer of the bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant to the bare aluminum surfaces.
(a) If you apply more than one stripe of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant:
1 Make sure that the subsequent stripes have a 50 percent overlap with the stripe you applied before.
2 Let the sealant dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
3 Apply bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant to the bare metal surface within three hours after you remove the finish on the metal.
NOTE: To make the sealant dry faster, you can increase the temperature of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant with warm air or the LIGHT SOURCE - INFRA-RED to 140 deg.F (60 deg.C) maximum.
(5) When the layer of bonderite is dry, apply a second layer of the bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant.(a) Apply the second layer 90 degrees to the direction of the strokes of the first layer.
(b) If you apply more than one stripe of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant:
1 Make sure that the subsequent stripes have a 50 percent overlap with the stripe you applied before.
2 Let the sealant dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
3 Apply the second layer of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant within five minutes after the first layer dries.
NOTE: To make the sealant dry faster, you can increase the temperature of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) sealant with warm air or the LIGHT SOURCE - INFRA-RED to 140 deg.F (60 deg.C) maximum.
(6) Clean the bolts (2) and (4), pins (3), washers (5) and nuts (6) with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist with (a) Remove
1 Install the fasteners within two hours after you clean them.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE CORRECT STRAKE. THE LEFT AND RIGHT STRAKES ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.
(7) Put the strake (1) on the left fan cowl door above the bolt holes for the strake (1). (8) Attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door with the nine bolts (4).
(a) Tighten the bolts (4) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (4) at this time.
(9) Attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door with the 15 bolts (2).
(a) Tighten the bolts (2) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (2) at this time.
(10) Measure the distance between the edge of the strake (1) and the surface of the fan cowl door.
(a) Record the areas where the strake (1) and the fan cowl do not touch, where the distance is between 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.050 in. (1.27 mm) and where the distance is more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm).
(11) Remove the 15 bolts (2) and the nine bolts (4) that attach the strake (1) to the fan cowl door.
(a) Remove the strake (1) from the fan cowl door.
(12) Prepare the strake (1) for installation:
(a) If the distance between the strake (1) and the fan cowl door is less than 0.030 in. (0.76 mm), apply a layer of the
(b) If the distance is more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm), contact United Technologies Aerospace Systems for instructions.
(c) If the distance is between 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.050 in. (1.27 mm), do the following:
1 Make a laminated shim from aluminum laminated shim stock (Material No.PU1-0068) to fit the area.
2 Adjust the shim thickness to approximately the distance that you measured in step 4.B.(10).
3 Mix

5 Put the laminated shim on the strake (1) with

(14) Put the strake (1) with the shims and
(15) Attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door with the nine bolts (4).
(a) Tighten the bolts (4) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (4) at this time.
(16) Attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door with the 15 bolts (2).
(a) Tighten the bolts (2) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (2) at this time.
(17) TORQUE the 24 bolts (2) and (4) to between 33 and 30 lbf.in (0.37 and 0.34 m.daN )

(19) Install the two pins (3), the two washers (5) and the two nuts (6) that attach the strake (1) to the fan cowl door.
(a) TORQUE the nuts (6) to between 33 and 30 lbf.in (0.37 and 0.34 m.daN )
.(20) Measure the resistance between the head of the two pins (3) and the surface of the strake.
(a) Make sure that the resistance is 0.0025 ohms or less.
(b) If the resistance at a pin is too high, remove the pin (3), washer (5) and nut (6) and do steps 4.B.(1) thru 4.B.(5) and steps 4.B.(19) thru 4.B.(20) again.
(21) Measure the resistance between the tail of the two pins (3) and the backing plate on the inboard side of the fan cowl door.
(a) Make sure that the resistance is 0.0025 ohms or less.
(b) If the resistance at a pin is too high, remove the pin (3), washer (5) and nut (6) and do steps 4.B.(1) thru 4.B.(5) and steps 4.B.(19) thru 4.B.(21) again.
C. Installation of the Strake (7) on the Right Fan Cowl Door
(1) Remove the finish from below the two pins (3) on the strake (7) about 1.5 times the diameter of the pins (3). UsePU1-0045 abrasive paper, aluminum oxide, 220-grit or finer abrasive paper.
(2) Remove the finish from below the washers (5) on the backing plate about 1.5 times the diameter of the washers (5). UsePU1-0045 abrasive paper, aluminum oxide, 220-grit or finer abrasive paper.
(3) Clean the areas with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist withPU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803).
(a) RemovePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(4) Apply a thin layer of the bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) to the bare aluminum surfaces.
(a) If you apply more than one stripe of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) :
1 Make sure that the subsequent stripes have a 50 percent overlap with the stripe you applied before.
2 Let the sealant dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
3 Apply bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) to the bare metal surface within three hours after you remove the finish on the metal.

(a) RemovePU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before it dries.
1 Install the fasteners within two hours after you clean them.
(8) Attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door with the nine bolts (4).
(a) Tighten the bolts (4) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (4) at this time.
(9) Attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door with the 15 bolts (2).
(a) Tighten the bolts (2) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (2) at this time.
(10) Measure the distance between the edge of the strake (7) and the surface of the fan cowl door.
(a) Record the areas where the strake (7) and the fan cowl do not touch, where the distance is between 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.050 in. (1.27 mm) and where the distance is more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm).
(11) Remove the 15 bolts (2) and the nine bolts (4) that attach the strake (7) to the fan cowl door.
(a) Remove the strake (7) from the fan cowl door.
(12) Prepare the strake (7) for installation:
(a) If the distance between the strake (7) and the fan cowl door is less than 0.030 in. (0.76 mm), apply a layer of thePU3-0006 adhesive, epoxy paste or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) to a little more than the distance you measured in step 4.C.(10).
(b) If the distance is more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm), contact United Technologies Aerospace Systems for instructions.
(c) If the distance is between 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.050 in. (1.27 mm), do the following:
1 Make a laminated shim from aluminum laminated shim stock (Material No.PU1-0068) to fit the area.
2 Adjust the shim thickness to approximately the distance that you measured in step 4.C.(10).
3 Apply a layer of thePU4-0002 epoxy primer, fluid resistant or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) mixture to the surface of the laminated shim. Allow the epoxy to dry to the touch. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
4 Put the laminated shim on the strake (7) withPU3-0006 adhesive, epoxy paste on it to fill in the distance.
(13) Apply PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) on the shanks of the bolts (2) and (4).
(a) Do not apply sealant on the threads of the bolts (2) and (4).
(14) Put the strake (7) with the shims andPU3-0006 adhesive, epoxy paste on the right fan cowl door above the bolt holes for the strake (7).
(15) Attachment of the strake (7):
1 Tighten the bolts (4) with your hand.
2 Do not torque the bolts (4) at this time.
(16) Attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door with the 15 bolts (2).
(a) Tighten the bolts (2) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (2) at this time.
(17) TORQUE the 24 bolts (2) and (4) to between 33 and 30 lbf.in (0.37 and 0.34 m.daN )
.
(18) If the adhesive comes out from between the strake (7) and the fan cowl door when you torque the bolts (2) and (4), cleanPU3-0006 adhesive, epoxy paste with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made wet with PU2-0001 alcohol, isopropyl or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803).
(19) Install the two pins (3), the two washers (5) and the two nuts (6) that attach the strake (1) to the fan cowl door.
(a) TORQUE the nuts (6) to between 33 and 30 lbf.in (0.37 and 0.34 m.daN )

(20) Measure the resistance between the head of the two pins (3) and the surface of the strake.
(a) Make sure that the resistance is 0.0025 ohms or less.
(b) If the resistance at a pin is too high, remove the pin (3), washer (5) and nut (6) and do steps 4.C.(1) thru 4.C.(5) and steps 4.C.(19) thru 4.C.(20) again.
(21) Measure the resistance between the tail of the two pins (3) and the backing plate on the inboard side of the fan cowl door.
(a) Make sure that the resistance is 0.0025 ohms or less.
(b) If the resistance at a pin is too high, remove the pin (3), washer (5), and nut (6) and do steps 4.C.(1) thru 4.C.(5) and steps 4.C.(19) thru 4.C.(21) again.
Subtask 71-13-07-390-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the finish from below the two pins (3) on the strake (7) about 1.5 times the diameter of the pins (3). Use

1 Make sure that the subsequent stripes have a 50 percent overlap with the stripe you applied before.
2 Let the sealant dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
3 Apply bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) to the bare metal surface within three hours after you remove the finish on the metal.
NOTE: To make the sealant dry faster, you can increase the temperature of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) with warm air or the LIGHT SOURCE - INFRA-RED to 140 deg.F (60.0 deg.C) maximum.
(5) When the layer of bonderite is dry, apply a second layer of the bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) .(a) Apply the second layer 90 degrees to the direction of the strokes of the first layer.
(b) Let bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) dry.
(c) If you apply more than one stripe of bonderite M-CR 1132 aero (Material No.PU2-0003) :
1 Make sure that the subsequent stripes have a 50 percent overlap with the stripe you applied before.
2 Let the sealant dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(6) Clean the bolts (2) and (4), pins (3), washers (5) and nuts (6) with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) made moist with

MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE CORRECT STRAKE. THE LEFT AND RIGHT STRAKES ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.
(7) Put the strake (7) on the right fan cowl door above the bolt holes for the strake (7).(8) Attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door with the nine bolts (4).
(a) Tighten the bolts (4) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (4) at this time.
(9) Attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door with the 15 bolts (2).
(a) Tighten the bolts (2) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (2) at this time.
(10) Measure the distance between the edge of the strake (7) and the surface of the fan cowl door.
(a) Record the areas where the strake (7) and the fan cowl do not touch, where the distance is between 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.050 in. (1.27 mm) and where the distance is more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm).
(11) Remove the 15 bolts (2) and the nine bolts (4) that attach the strake (7) to the fan cowl door.
(a) Remove the strake (7) from the fan cowl door.
(12) Prepare the strake (7) for installation:
(a) If the distance between the strake (7) and the fan cowl door is less than 0.030 in. (0.76 mm), apply a layer of the
(b) If the distance is more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm), contact United Technologies Aerospace Systems for instructions.
(c) If the distance is between 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.050 in. (1.27 mm), do the following:
1 Make a laminated shim from aluminum laminated shim stock (Material No.PU1-0068) to fit the area.
2 Adjust the shim thickness to approximately the distance that you measured in step 4.C.(10).
3 Apply a layer of the

(16) Attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door with the 15 bolts (2).
(a) Tighten the bolts (2) with your hand.
(b) Do not torque the bolts (2) at this time.
(17) TORQUE the 24 bolts (2) and (4) to between 33 and 30 lbf.in (0.37 and 0.34 m.daN )
. (18) If the adhesive comes out from between the strake (7) and the fan cowl door when you torque the bolts (2) and (4), clean
(19) Install the two pins (3), the two washers (5) and the two nuts (6) that attach the strake (1) to the fan cowl door.
(a) TORQUE the nuts (6) to between 33 and 30 lbf.in (0.37 and 0.34 m.daN )
. (20) Measure the resistance between the head of the two pins (3) and the surface of the strake.
(a) Make sure that the resistance is 0.0025 ohms or less.
(b) If the resistance at a pin is too high, remove the pin (3), washer (5) and nut (6) and do steps 4.C.(1) thru 4.C.(5) and steps 4.C.(19) thru 4.C.(20) again.
(21) Measure the resistance between the tail of the two pins (3) and the backing plate on the inboard side of the fan cowl door.
(a) Make sure that the resistance is 0.0025 ohms or less.
(b) If the resistance at a pin is too high, remove the pin (3), washer (5), and nut (6) and do steps 4.C.(1) thru 4.C.(5) and steps 4.C.(19) thru 4.C.(21) again.
D. Seal the Strake (1) or (7).
(1) Put a layer of the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant on the heads of the 15 bolts (2) and nine bolts (4).
(a) Make sure that the layer is a minimum of 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) thick.
(b) Make sure that the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant is a minimum of 0.125 in. (3.17 mm) from the heads of the bolts (2) and (4).
(c) Make sure that you cannot see the heads of the bolts (2) and (4).
(2) Put a layer of the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant on the heads of the two pins (3).
(a) Make sure that the layer is a minimum of 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) thick.
(b) Make sure that the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant is a minimum of 0.125 in. (3.17 mm) from the heads of the pins (3).
(c) Make sure that you cannot see the heads of the pins (3).
(3) Apply a bead of the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant around the strake (1) or (7) where it is adjacent to the fan cowl door.
(a) Make sure that there are no air bubbles in the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant.
(b) Make sure that the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant is a minimum of 0.08 in. (2.03 mm) thick at its thickest part.
(4) Put a layer of the sealant (Material No.PU3-0008) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) on the two washers (5) and the two nuts (6) on the inboard side of the fan cowl door.
(a) Make sure that the layer is a minimum of 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) thick.
(b) Make sure that the sealant (Material No.PU3-0008) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) is a minimum of 0.125 in. (3.17 mm) from the two washers (5) and the two nuts (6).
(c) Make sure that you cannot see the two washers (5) and two nuts (6).
(5) If you see aluminum surfaces without paint, apply a layer of thePU4-0002 epoxy primer, fluid resistant or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) mixture to them.
(6) Cure the paint and sealant. Let the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant cure for a minimum of six hours before you put the aircraft into operation. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturers.
After six hours, the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant will be in the tack-free condition.
5. Close-up(1) Put a layer of the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant on the heads of the 15 bolts (2) and nine bolts (4).
(a) Make sure that the layer is a minimum of 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) thick.
(b) Make sure that the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant is a minimum of 0.125 in. (3.17 mm) from the heads of the bolts (2) and (4).
(c) Make sure that you cannot see the heads of the bolts (2) and (4).
(2) Put a layer of the sealant (Material No.PU3-0002) or equivalent (Ref. AMM TASK 70-30-00-918-803) firewall sealant on the heads of the two pins (3).
