A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

4. Procedure
Subtask 71-00-00-680-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Prepare for the leak test.
   (1) On the drain collector assembly, locate the reservoir connected to the AGB pad on which you have replaced the seal.
NOTE: The drain collector assembly is attached to the aft side of the engine AGB. It has four reservoirs, each identified with the accessory seal drain to which it is connected.
   (2) Push the poppet valve at the bottom of the reservoir and fully drain the fluid that remains in the reservoir. Discard the drained fluid.
Subtask 71-00-00-790-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Leak test
WARNING: DO NOT DO AN ENGINE RUN-UP WITH THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS OPEN. IF YOU OPERATE THE ENGINE AT MORE THAN IDLE, THE FAN COWLS MUST NOT BE OPEN. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: - ENGINE OPERATION MUST NOT EXCEED MINIMUM IDLE WHEN PERSONNEL ARE IN ENTRY/EXIT CORRIDOR.
  • POSITIVE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE FLIGHT COMPARTMENT AND PERSONNEL IN ENTRY EXIT CORRIDOR IS NECESSARY.
  • INLET AND EXHAUST HAZARD AREAS MUST BE STRICTLY OBSERVED BY PERSONNEL IN ENTRY/EXIT CORRIDOR.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-040):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR
   (3) Start the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-003) and let it become stable at minimum idle for 5 minutes.
   (4) Operate the engine at 70 percent N1 or above it necessary to pressure the oil system and to get accurate results during leakage check.
   (5) Operate the engine at minimum idle and let it become stable for 5 minutes.
   (6) Stop the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-028).
   (7) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR
   (8) If there are any, drain the leaks that have collected in the reservoir during the engine operation as follows:
     (a) Put a CONTAINER 0.5L ( 0.13 USGAL) - TRANSPARENT, GRADUATED below the poppet valve at the bottom of the reservoir.
     (b) Push the poppet valve to let the fluid drain in the container.
     (c) Release the poppet valve.
   (9) Calculate the leakage rate of the replacement seal. The oil quantity collected in the graduated container and the time of engine operation permit to calculate the leakage rate.
   (10) This leakage rate must be less than 20 ml/hr (1 cc/3 minutes) for each of the pads that follow:
  • starter pad
  • IDG pad
  • hydraulic pump pad
  • fuel pump pad
NOTE: The 20 ml/hr (1 cc/3 minutes) maximum limit applies only to the engine oil leaks that come from these four pads.
   (11) If the leakage rate is near the maximum limit and if you are not sure about the nature/source of the fluid collected from the fuel pump pad, which could leak a mix of engine oil and fuel and the hydraulic pump pad, which could leak a mix of engine oil and hydraulic fluid, isolate more accurately the leak sources (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-790-002)
5. Close-up
Subtask 71-00-00-410-099-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-040):
   (3) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR
   (4) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
