Removal of the No.3 Flap Track Beam


WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
CAUTION: THIS PART IS A REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENT (RSC), WHICH CAN BE MOVED BETWEEN AIRCRAFT. THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. THE OPERATOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPECIFIC TRACKING AND CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS OF REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. INCORRECT MAINTENANCE OF THESE COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE A RISK FOR THE FLIGHT SAFETY.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.

B. Get Access
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Remove the fairings of the applicable No.3 flap track (Ref. AMM TASK 57-55-11-000-001).
   (2) Remove the carriage from the applicable No.3 flap track beam (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-46-000-001).
   (3) If necessary, remove the No.3 actuator to get access to the flap track bolts (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-49-000-003).
   (4) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is installed on the flap/slat control lever.
   (5) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) in position below the applicable No.3 flap track beam (1), zone 587 (687).

B. Get Access
   (1) Remove the carriage from the applicable No.3 flap track beam (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-46-000-001).
   (2) If necessary, remove the No.3 actuator to get access to the flap track bolts (Ref. AMM TASK 27-54-49-000-003).
   (3) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is installed on the flap/slat control lever.

4. Procedure
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

WARNING: SUPPORT THE UNIT/ASSEMBLY. THE UNIT/ASSEMBLY IS HEAVY. IF YOU DO NOT SUPPORT IT, IT WILL FALL. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS, AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
A. Removal of the Flap Track Beam
NOTE: The weight of the flap track beam (1) is 36 kg (79.4 lb).
F No.s 3 and 4 Flap Track Beams ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Hold the flap track beam (1).
   (2) At the forward mounting:
     (a) Remove the nut (25), the bolt (31) and disconnect the bonding strap (30).
     (b) From one side of the beam only, remove and discard the cotter pin (23). Remove the collar (22), the pin (18) and the anti-chafe collar (21).
     (c) Remove the failsafe pin (26) from the bracket (32) and the flap track beam (1).
     (d) Remove and discard the cotter pin (27).
     (e) Remove the nut (28), the washer (29) and the bolt (20).
     (f) Install the 98D57004037000 EXTRACTOR FLAP SPIGOT into the forward spigot pin (25).
     (g) Use the 98D57004037000 EXTRACTOR FLAP SPIGOT to remove the forward spigot pin (25) through the spherical bearing (20).
   (3) At the rear mounting:
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (2) and (5).
     (b) Remove and discard the lockwire from the nuts (6) and the flanged nuts (7).
     (c) Remove the nuts (6) and the flanged nuts (7) from the studs (8).
     (d) Remove the nut (3) and the spherical washer (4) from the aft spigot pin (17).
   (4) Lower the rear end of the flap track beam (1).
   (5) Remove the flap track beam (1).

B. If you are to install a replacement flap track beam (1).
F No.s 3 and 4 Flap Track Beams ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Remove and discard the cotter pins (16).
   (2) Remove the nuts (15), the washers (14) and the studs (8).
   (3) From one side at a time, remove the nuts (13), the bolts (9), the bearing pads (11) and the shims (12).
NOTE: Keep the bearing pads (11) and the shims (12) together in different sets so that you can install them in the same position from which they were removed.

C. Removal of the Flap Track Beam
NOTE: The weight of the flap track beam (1) is 57 kg (125.7 lb).
F Nos. 2, 3 and 4 Flap Track Beams ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Hold the flap track beam (1).
   (2) At the forward mounting:
     (a) Remove the nut (25), the bolt (31) and disconnect the bonding strap (30).
     (b) From one side of the beam only, remove and discard the cotter pin (23). Remove the collar (22), the pin (18) and the anti-chafe collar (21).
     (c) Remove the failsafe pin (26) from the bracket (32) and the flap track beam (1).
     (d) Remove and discard the cotter pin (27).
     (e) Remove the nut (28), the washer (29) and the bolt (20).
     (f) Install the 98D57004096000 EXTRACTOR FLAP SPIGOT into the forward spigot pin (24).
     (g) Use the 98D57004096000 EXTRACTOR FLAP SPIGOT to remove the forward spigot pin (24) through the spherical bearing (19).
   (3) At the rear mounting:
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (2) and (5).
     (b) Remove and discard the lockwire from the nuts (6) and the flanged nuts (7).
     (c) Remove the nuts (6) and the flanged nuts (7) from the studs (8).
     (d) Remove the nut (3) and the spherical washer (4) from the aft spigot pin (17).
   (4) Lower the rear end of the flap track beam (1).
   (5) Remove the flap track beam (1).

D. If you are to install a replacement flap track beam (1).

   (1) Remove and discard the cotter pins (16).
   (2) Remove the nuts (15), the washers (14) and the studs (8).
