D. Installation of the Navigation-Light Glazing Panel
   (1) For installation of a glazing panel that was removed for access only:
     (a) Put the glazing panel (8) with the seal (6) in position.
     (b) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) under the head and to the shank of each bolt (7).
     (c) Install the bolts (7).

   (2) For installation of a replacement glazing panel:
     (a) Put the glazing panel (8) with the seal (6) in position.
NOTE: Two complete sets of bolts (7) are supplied with the glazing panel (8). Make sure the correct set of bolts (7) is used.
     (b) Find the correct set of bolts (7) to use to attach the glazing panel (8) as follows:

1 Install four shorter bolts (7) at the outer locations in the upper and lower positions.
       2 TORQUE the bolts (7) to between 0.5 and 0.4 m.daN (44.25 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.

E. Sealant Application
NOTE: If the sealant cure time is not sufficient before the aircraft flight, do step (2).
   (1) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Windshield Fillet - (Material No.
06AFB1) to the space between the edge of the panel and the aircraft structure.
NOTE: If necessary, refer to the SRM 517611 for the correct repair procedure to apply the sealant between the glazing and the glazing frame.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU APPLY THE TAPE, MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO BUBBLES. THIS WILL HELP TO PREVENT THE REMOVAL OF THE TAPE DURING FLIGHT.
   (2) If the sealant cure time is not sufficient before the aircraft flight, do procedure (a) or (b) as necessary:
  • procedure (a), apply Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) between the glazing panel and the aircraft structure with no sealant applied
  • procedure (b), apply Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) between the glazing panel and the aircraft structure while the applied sealant cures.
     (a) Put Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) :
  • between the edge of the glazing panel and the aircraft structure without the sealant as follows:
1 Put an applicable length strip of Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) :
  • on the glazing panel along the edge of the panel and the aircraft structure.
2 Put overlap strips of the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) :
  • around the glazing panel to make sure that the surface is smooth. The minimum overlap length of the applied Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) must be 25 mm (1 in.).
3 Make sure that the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) :
  • is not applied on the glazing section of the assembly
  • is not applied on the fillet seal around the glazing section
  • does not effect the navigation light transmission.
4 Do a visual check of the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) before each flight.
5 If the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) is damaged, then:
6 Remove the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) in less than 50 flight cycles.
7 Clean the component interfaces and/or the adjacent area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
8 Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Windshield Fillet - (Material No.06AFB1) to the space between the edge of the panel and the aircraft structure.
NOTE: If necessary, refer to the SRM 517611 for the correct repair procedure to apply the sealant between the glazing and the glazing frame.
     (b) Put Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) :
  • between the edge of the panel and the aircraft structure after the sealant is not tacky as follows:
1 Apply Release Agent-- Water Base - (Material No.14DAB1) over the sealant. This will help to remove the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) after the sealant cure time.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU APPLY THE TAPE, MAKE SURE THAT THE SEALANT IS NOT TACKY. IF IT IS TACKY, THE TAPE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEALANT.
2 Put an applicable length strip of Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) :
  • on the glazing panel along the edge of the panel and the aircraft structure.
3 Put overlap strips of the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) :
  • around the glazing panel to make sure that the surface is smooth. The minimum overlap length of the applied Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) must be 25 mm (1 in.).
NOTE: The Polysulfide Sealant-Windshield Fillet - (Material No.06AFB1) is not tacky after 3 hours and the cure time is 4 hours.
NOTE: During the flight, temperatures are less than 10 deg.C (50 deg.F) and the sealants do not dry. The sealant cure time given above does not include flight hours.
4 Make sure that the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) :
  • is not applied on the glazing section of the assembly
  • is not applied on the fillet seal around the glazing section
  • does not effect the navigation light transmission.
5 Do a visual check of the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) before each flight.
6 If the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) is damaged, then:
7 Remove the Adhesive Film Tape-- Aluminium Foil - (Material No.05RAB9) in less than 50 flight cycles.
8 Clean the area around the navigation-light glazing area with:
  • a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Methyl Alcohol - (Material No.08BBE1) or Aqueous Cleaner-Aircraft Exterior Pressure Spraying - (Material No.08ABC1) and water.
9 Make sure that there is no damage to the sealant.
