1. Reason for the Job
NOTE: You can remove or install the vertical stabilizer tip with your hands as an alternative to the SLING-UNIVERSAL,TAIL PLANE and the CRANE HEIGHT 15 M (50 FT). If you do not use the sling and the crane but operate the vertical tip manually, you must be careful not to cause damage to the vertical stabilizer.

B. Depressurize the Green, Yellow and Blue hydraulic systems (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).

C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 12M (40 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
   (2) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
   (3) Put the rudder pedals in a neutral position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 55-34-11-020-054-B
A. Removal of the Vertical Stabilizer Tip
   (1) Remove the static discharger (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 23-61-41-000-001).
   (2) Remove the screws (3).
   (3) If applicable, prepare the tip (1) for the removal:
     (a) Remove the self-adhesive disks from the hoisting points and discard the self-adhesive disks (Ref. AMM TASK 11-00-00-000-004).
     (b) Remove the plastic plug from the lift point.
     (c) Install the lift lug (4) with the eye end out of the tip (1).
     (d) Attach the 98A55308440000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,TAIL PLANE to the lift lug (4) and to the CRANE HEIGHT 15 M (50 FT).
     (e) Lift the tip (1) clear of the vertical stabilizer with the crane and put it on a support.
     (f) Remove the universal tailplane sling from the lift lug (4).
     (g) Remove the universal tailplane sling and the crane.
   (4) Remove the tip (1).
