F. Preparation of Inspection Area
   (1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
   (2) If not, clean the inspection area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) If there is a TPS layer and if it does not let you do a satisfactory inspection, remove the TPS layer (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 55-20-00-210-055-A
A. Detailed Inspection
   (1) Make a detailed inspection of the elevator hinge fittings, the actuator fittings and the adjacent structure for:
  • delamination,
  • deterioration to the structure,
  • condition of the tab lugs and fasteners,
  • scratches,
  • marks, scores and corrosion,
  • dents, indentation and gouges,
  • cracks,
  • damaged paintwork.
   (2) If damage is found, look for allowable damage limits SRM 552600.
Subtask 55-20-00-916-051-A
B. Application of Corrosion Preventive Compound
   (1) Cover the area adjacent to the elevator hinge supports and the attachment fittings with Adhesive Film Tape-Masking or Labelling Film Polyester - (Material No.05RCB1) and Adhesive Film Tape-Masking - - (Material No.05RDA1) .
   (2) If there is a TPS layer, do a check of the condition and integrity of the TPS layer (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
NOTE: Airbus recommends that you always apply a new layer of TPS. This is to make sure that the TPS layer continues to give satisfactory corrosion protection. If, after the check, you think that the TPS layer is in the correct condition, you can apply a new layer as a spray on the existing layer.
   (3) If the TPS layer has local damage, remove the damaged TPS layer and apply a new layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound_Water Displacing Soft Film - (Material No.12ABC1) or Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing Hard Film - (Material No.12ABB1) on the inspection area (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
   (4) If, before the inspection, there was:
  • Removal of the TPS layer
  • Or cleaning of the inspection area with high pressure water, steam, solvents and/or cleaning agents
Apply a full new layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound_Water Displacing Soft Film - (Material No.12ABC1) or Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing Hard Film - (Material No.12ABB1) on the inspection area (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
NOTE: Do not apply the corrosion preventive compound to the bush or bearing of each fitting assembly.
   (5) Remove the masking tape from the adjacent structure area.
5. Close-up
Subtask 55-20-00-410-054-A
