Removal of the Spigot Ball Joint

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.

Bonding Leads of the Spigot at RIB6Subtask 54-51-41-941-056-A
A. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that the slats are fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).
(2) Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the flap/slat control lever on panel 114VU (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).
(3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the flap/slat controls.
(4) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).
(5) Make sure that the engine shutdown occurred five minutes or more before you do this procedure.
(6) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 54-51-41-040-059-A (1) Make sure that the slats are fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
Subtask 54-51-41-010-055-A WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
(1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).C. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
(a) For the left pylon, at zones 410 and 470
(b) For the right pylon, at zones 420 and 480.
(2) Remove the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-000-806):

(3) Remove the pylon lateral access-door (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-804):
(a) For the left pylon:

Subtask 54-51-41-020-067-A (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
(a) For the left pylon, at zones 410 and 470

Subtask 54-51-41-110-057-A
A. Cleaning of the Structure
(1) Remove the sealant with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC from the collars (1) of the ball joint, on the upper panel, between RIB4 and RIB5.
(2) Clean the upper panel with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
Subtask 54-51-41-020-068-A (1) Remove the sealant with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC from the collars (1) of the ball joint, on the upper panel, between RIB4 and RIB5.
(2) Clean the upper panel with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
B. Disconnection of the Bonding Leads of the Spigot at RIB6
(1) If necessary, disconnect the bonding leads (24) of the spigot at RIB6:
(a) Remove the bolts (25).
(b) Disconnect the bonding leads (24) from the bonding angles (23) that are installed on the pylon box at RIB6.
Subtask 54-51-41-020-069-A (1) If necessary, disconnect the bonding leads (24) of the spigot at RIB6:
(a) Remove the bolts (25).
(b) Disconnect the bonding leads (24) from the bonding angles (23) that are installed on the pylon box at RIB6.
C. Removal of the Spigot Ball Joint
(1) If necessary, remove the screws (4) and (6), the washers (5) and (7) and the clamps (9) from the bracket (8).
(2) Remove the hi-locks (2) and the collars (1) SRM 514200.
(3) Remove the spigot ball joint (3) from the rear upper spar.
(1) If necessary, remove the screws (4) and (6), the washers (5) and (7) and the clamps (9) from the bracket (8).
(2) Remove the hi-locks (2) and the collars (1) SRM 514200.
(3) Remove the spigot ball joint (3) from the rear upper spar.
