4. ProcedureSubtask 51-73-11-320-055-A
A. Repair of Minor Damage
(1) If necessary, remove any corrosion (Ref. AMM TASK 51-74-11-300-001).
(2) Measure the depth of the scratch.
(3) Refer to the ASRM 51-73-00 and the applicable ASRM-chapter 52 thru 57 for the permitted depth limits.
(4) Clean the repair area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(5) For damage to titanium:
(b) Remove the scratch with a ROUNDED SCOTCH STONE and water. Move the scotch stone along the scratch until the contour is smooth and rounded.
(c) Rub the roughened area with CLOTH-EMERY (GRADE 400) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) . Rub along the length of the scratch until the surface is smooth.
(d) Clean the area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(e) Polish the bare metal with Polishing Paste-Aluminium Alloys - - (Material No.14EEA1) and a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(6) For damage to forged aluminum:
(a) Remove the paint from the area of the damage with abrasive cloth grade 280.
(b) Remove the scratch with abrasive cloth grade 400. Rub along the length of the scratch until the surface is smooth.
(c) Clean the area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a lint-free cloth.
(d) Polish the bare metal with Polishing Paste-Aluminium Alloys - - (Material No.14EEA1) and a lint-free cloth.
(f) Apply Surface Pretreatment-Light Alloys Chemical Conversion Yellow - (Material No.10ABC1) to the metal surface.
(7) For damage to steel components:
(a) Remove the paint from the area of the damage with abrasive cloth grade 280.
(b) Remove the scratch with a rounded scotch stone and water. Move the scotch stone along the scratch until the contour is smooth and rounded.
(c) Rub the roughened area with abrasive cloth grade 400. Rub along the length of the scratch until the surface is smooth.
(d) Clean the area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a lint-free cloth.
