Replacement of the Lamp of the Runway Turnoff Light


WARNING: WEAR GLASSES AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHING WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE LIGHT. THE LAMP IS PRESSURIZED AND AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE LAMP GLASS WITH YOUR FINGERS. THE OILS FROM YOUR SKIN WILL QUICKLY CAUSE DETERIORATION OF THE LAMP. IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY TOUCH THE LAMP GLASS, CLEAN IT WITH A LINT-FREE CLOTH.
NOTE: This procedure is only applicable for the substitude halogen lamp of the runway turnoff light or the GE sealed-beam lamp of the runway turnoff light.

4. Procedure
Subtask 33-43-11-020-056-A
A. Removal of the Lamp
   (1) For the HONEYWELL runway turnoff-light:
     (a) Remove the screw (6) and the retainer ring assembly (5) from the light assembly (1).
     (b) Removal of the lamp (4) from the light assembly (1):
CAUTION: HOLD THE LAMP FIRMLY UNTIL IT IS FULLY DISCONNECTED. DO NOT PULL OR TWIST THE WIRES. THE WIRES WILL BECOME DAMAGED IF YOU PULL OR TWIST THEM, OR IF THE LAMP FALLS AND HANGS AT THE END OF THE WIRES.
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL THE LAMP TOO FAR OUT OF THE LIGHT. THE WIRES CONNECTED TO THE LAMP WILL BECOME DAMAGED IF YOU PULL OR TWIST THEM.
       1 Pull the lamp (4) out of the light assembly (1).
       2 Disconnect the electrical wires (2) with the screws (3) from the terminal studs of the lamp (4).
     (c) Make sure that the gasket of the light assembly (1) is in the correct condition.
     (d) If the gasket of the light assembly (1) is damaged:
       1 Remove the applicable light assembly (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 33-43-11-000-001).
       2 Send the light assembly (1) to the workshop for repair the gasket.
       3 Install the light assembly (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 33-43-11-400-001).

B. Removal of the Lamp
   (1) For the TELEFLEX runway turnoff light:
     (a) For the GE sealed-beam lamp:
       1 Remove the screw (7) and the washer (6).
       2 Remove and keep the insulating washer (8).
       3 Remove the clamp (1).
       4 Remove the lamp (2):
CAUTION: HOLD THE LAMP FIRMLY UNTIL IT IS FULLY DISCONNECTED. DO NOT PULL OR TWIST THE WIRES. THE WIRES WILL BECOME DAMAGED IF YOU PULL OR TWIST THEM, OR IF THE LAMP FALLS AND HANGS AT THE END OF THE WIRES.
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL THE LAMP TOO FAR OUT OF THE LIGHT. THE WIRES CONNECTED TO THE LAMP WILL BECOME DAMAGED IF YOU PULL OR TWIST THEM.
         a Carefully, disengage the lamp (2) from the optic support (4).
         b Remove the two screws (5) from the terminal studs of the lamp (2).
         c Disconnect the two terminal lugs from the terminal studs of the lamp (2).
       5 Remove the gasket (3) from the lamp (2).
       6 Do an inspection of the gasket (3). You can use the gasket again if it is not damaged and spares are not available.
     (b) For the substitute halogen lamp:
       1 Remove the screw (7) and the washer (6).
       2 Remove the clamp (1).
       3 Remove the lamp (2):
CAUTION: HOLD THE LAMP FIRMLY UNTIL IT IS FULLY DISCONNECTED. DO NOT PULL OR TWIST THE WIRES. THE WIRES WILL BECOME DAMAGED IF YOU PULL OR TWIST THEM, OR IF THE LAMP FALLS AND HANGS AT THE END OF THE WIRES.
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL THE LAMP TOO FAR OUT OF THE LIGHT. THE WIRES CONNECTED TO THE LAMP WILL BECOME DAMAGED IF YOU PULL OR TWIST THEM.
         a Carefully, disengage the lamp (2) from the optic support (4).
         b Remove the two screws (5) and washers from the terminal studs of the lamp (2).
         c Disconnect the two terminal lugs from the terminal studs of the lamp (2).
       4 Remove the gasket (3) from the lamp (2).
       5 Do an inspection of the gasket (3). You can use the gasket again if it is not damaged and spares are not available.

C. Cleaning
   (1) For the HONEYWELL runway turnoff-light (alternative procedure):
CAUTION: USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED MATERIALS OR THEIR EQUIVALENTS, AND OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURERS. OTHER MATERIALS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION OF THE COMPONENTS AND THE RELATED AREA.
     (a) Clean the threads of the screw (6) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (b) Dry the threads of the screw (6) with the AIR SOURCE 0.3 TO 0.7 BAR (5 TO 10 PSI)- FILTERED, DRY or with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
     (c) Clean the electrical wires (2) and remove the corrosion from the terminal lugs with the CLOTH-EMERY, FINE.
     (d) Clean the attaching parts and the screws (3) with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Naphta based and Alcohol - (Material No.08BBC1) .
     (e) Dry the attaching parts and the screws (3) with the AIR SOURCE 0.3 TO 0.7 BAR (5 TO 10 PSI)- FILTERED, DRY.
   (2) For the TELEFLEX runway turnoff-light (alternative procedure):
CAUTION: USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED MATERIALS OR THEIR EQUIVALENTS, AND OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURERS. OTHER MATERIALS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION OF THE COMPONENTS AND THE RELATED AREA.
     (a) Clean the threads of the screw (7) with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (b) Dry the threads of the screw (7) with the AIR SOURCE 0.3 TO 0.7 BAR (5 TO 10 PSI)- FILTERED, DRY or with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
     (c) Clean the electrical terminals and remove the corrosion from the terminal lugs with an CLOTH-EMERY, FINE.
     (d) Clean the attaching parts and the screws (5) with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Naphta based and Alcohol - (Material No.08BBC1) .
     (e) Dry the attaching parts and the screws (5) with the AIR SOURCE 0.3 TO 0.7 BAR (5 TO 10 PSI)- FILTERED, DRY.

D. Installation of the Lamp
   (1) For the HONEYWELL runway turnoff-light (alternative procedure):
     (a) Connect the electrical wires (2):
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES WHEN YOU CONNECT THE TERMINALS TO THE LAMP. IF YOU PULL THE WIRES, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
       1 Connect the electrical wires (2) to the terminal stud of the lamp (4) with the screws (3).
     (b) Installation of the lamp (4):
CAUTION: HOLD THE LAMP FIRMLY WHEN YOU INSTALL IT. DO NOT PULL OR TWIST THE WIRES. THE WIRES WILL BECOME DAMAGED IF YOU PULL OR TWIST THEM, OR IF THE LAMP FALLS AND HANGS AT THE END OF THE WIRES.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE GASKET IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION. IF NOT, YOU CAN DECREASE THE LIFE OF THE LAMP.
       1 Put the lamp (4) in position on the light assembly (1). Hold it in this position.
     (c) Put the retainer ring assembly (5) around the lamp (4) and the light assembly (1).
       1 If the retainer ring assembly (5) is twisted, install a new AIPC 33-43-11-01-020 RETAINER (5).
     (d) Install the screw (6).
     (e) TORQUE the screw (6) to between 7 and 6 lbf.in (0.08 and 0.07 m.daN )
T
       1 Make sure that there are no signs of distortion of the retainer ring assembly (5).

E. Installation of the Lamp
   (1) For the TELEFLEX runway turnoff-light (alternative procedure):
     (a) For the GE sealed-beam lamp:
       1 Apply a thin layer of Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.06CMD9) to the gasket (3) to bond it to the optic support (4). If you discarded the gasket (3) after its removal, do this step for the new AIPC 33-43-11-01-110 GASKET (3) that you will install.
       2 Install the gasket (3):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE GASKET IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION. IF NOT, YOU CAN DECREASE THE LIFE OF THE LAMP.
         a Install the gasket (3) in the correct position on the optic support (4).
       3 Connect the two terminal lugs:
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES WHEN YOU CONNECT THE TERMINALS TO THE LAMP. IF YOU PULL THE WIRES, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
         a If necessary, replace the terminal lugs of the electrical wires.
         b Connect the two terminal lugs to the terminal studs of the lamp (2) and tighten the two screws (5).
       4 Install the lamp (2):
CAUTION: HOLD THE LAMP FIRMLY WHEN YOU INSTALL IT. DO NOT PULL OR TWIST THE WIRES. THE WIRES WILL BECOME DAMAGED IF YOU PULL OR TWIST THEM, OR IF THE LAMP FALLS AND HANGS AT THE END OF THE WIRES.
         a Hold the gasket (3) in the correct position and install the lamp (2) in the optic support (4).
       5 Put the clamp (1) with the chamfer on the lamp (2) and the brackets turned down, on the optic support (4) to safety the lamp (2).
         a If the clamp (1) is twisted, install a new
AIPC 33-43-11-01-010 CLAMP (1).
       6 Compress the clamp (1) with your hand to move the two brackets near each other and install the washer (6), the insulated washer (8) and screw (7).
       7 Tighten the screw (7) until the screw head touches the bracket of the clamp (1).
       8 Tighten the screw (7) again by two turns.
         a Make sure that there are no signs of distortion of the clamp (1).
     (b) For the substitude halogen lamp:
       1 Apply a layer of the Silicone Adhesive Sealant-General Purpose One part legacy (Material No.
06CMD9) to the applicable surfaces to bond a new AIPC 33-43-11-01-110 GASKET (3) to the optic support (4).
       2 Install the gasket (3):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE GASKET IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION. IF NOT, YOU CAN DECREASE THE LIFE OF THE LAMP.
         a Install the gasket (3) in the correct position on the optic support (4).
       3 Connect the terminal lugs:
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES WHEN YOU CONNECT THE TERMINALS TO THE LAMP. IF YOU PULL THE WIRES, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THEM.
         a If necessary, replace the terminal lugs.
         b Connect the two terminal lugs to the terminal studs of the lamp (2) with the two washers and screws (5).
         c TORQUE the two screws (5) to 0.1 m.daN (8.85 lbf.in )

       4 Install the lamp (2):
CAUTION: HOLD THE LAMP FIRMLY WHEN YOU INSTALL IT. DO NOT PULL OR TWIST THE WIRES. THE WIRES WILL BECOME DAMAGED IF YOU PULL OR TWIST THEM, OR IF THE LAMP FALLS AND HANGS AT THE END OF THE WIRES.
         a Align the substitude halogen lamp locator with the gasket locator to install the lamp (2) on the optic support (4).
       5 Put the clamp (1), with the chamfer behind the lamp (2) and the brackets turned down, on the optic support (4) to safety the lamp (2).
         a If the clamp (1) is twisted, install a new
AIPC 33-43-11-01-010 CLAMP (1).
       6 Compress the clamp (1) with your hand to move the two brackets near each other and install the washer (6) and the screw (7).
       7 Put a gage with a thickness of 8 mm (0.31 in.) +/- 0.2 mm (0.01 in.) between the two brackets of the clamp (1).
NOTE: You can use a bulb handling tool-gage to measure the distance between the two brackets of the clamps (1).
       8 Tighten the screw (7):
CAUTION: DO NOT USE THE BULB HANDLING TOOL TO TIGHTEN THE CLAMP SCREW. DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE COMPONENTS IF THE BULB HANDLING TOOL BREAKS. USE THE CORRECT TOOL TO TIGHTEN THE CLAMP SCREW.
         a Tighten the screw (7) until the two brackets of the clamp (1) touch the gage, without visual signs of distortion of the clamp (1).
       9 Remove the gage.
