Installation of the PPU Adaptor Plate
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE FLIGHT CONTROL SAFETY-LOCKS AND THE WARNING NOTICES ARE IN POSITION.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
(2) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the flap/slat controls.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the slats are fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).
(2) Make sure that the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS or 98D27803500002 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS is installed on the flap/slat control lever on the panel 114VU.
(3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) is in position:
(a) FOR [6048CM] (SLAT APPU ADAPTER)
below zone 510
(b) FOR [6098CM] (SLAT APPU ADAPTER)
below zone 610.
(4) Make sure that the applicable access panel is removed:
(a) FOR [6048CM] (SLAT APPU ADAPTER)
remove 522UB
(b) FOR [6098CM] (SLAT APPU ADAPTER)
remove 622UB.
Subtask 27-81-42-865-051-A (1) Make sure that the slats are fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).

A. Preparation for Installation
(1) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the interface of the structure and the PPU adaptor plate (1).
(2) Examine the interface of the structure and the PPU adaptor plate (1) for damage, cracks and corrosion.
(3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
Subtask 27-81-42-420-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the interface of the structure and the PPU adaptor plate (1).

B. Installation of the PPU Adaptor
(1) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the interface of the structure and the PPU adaptor plate (1).
(2) Apply a layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) to the interface of the structure and the locking ring (6).
(3) Apply Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the splines on the slat torque-shaft.
(5) Install the bolts (8) and the nuts (4).
(6) Install the pin (5) and safety it with the retaining ring (7).
(7) Apply a layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Soft Film - (Material No.12ACC1) to the nuts (4) and the heads of the bolts (8).
(8) Turn the cover plate (3) clockwise to cover the nuts (4) then tighten the screws (2).
(9) Install the Asymmetry Position Pick Off Unit (APPU) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-81-18-400-001).
Subtask 27-81-42-420-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the interface of the structure and the PPU adaptor plate (1).
(2) Apply a layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) to the interface of the structure and the locking ring (6).
(3) Apply Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the splines on the slat torque-shaft.
NOTE: For the lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
(4) Put the PPU adaptor plate (1) and the locking ring (6) in the correct position on the structure and the torque shaft. (5) Install the bolts (8) and the nuts (4).
(6) Install the pin (5) and safety it with the retaining ring (7).
(7) Apply a layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Soft Film - (Material No.12ACC1) to the nuts (4) and the heads of the bolts (8).
(8) Turn the cover plate (3) clockwise to cover the nuts (4) then tighten the screws (2).
(9) Install the Asymmetry Position Pick Off Unit (APPU) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-81-18-400-001).
B. Installation of the PPU Adaptor Plate
(1) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the interface of the structure and the PPU adaptor plate (1).
(2) Apply a layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) to the interface of the structure and the locking ring (4).
(3) Apply Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the splines on the slat torque-shaft.
(5) Install the bolts (6) and the nuts (2).
(6) Install the pin (3) and safety it with the retaining ring (5).
(7) Apply a layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Soft Film - (Material No.12ACC1) to the nuts (2) and the heads of the bolts (6).
(8) Install the APPU (Ref. AMM TASK 27-81-18-400-001).
5. Close-up(1) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) or Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Fillet Structure (Material No.06AEB2) to the interface of the structure and the PPU adaptor plate (1).
(2) Apply a layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) to the interface of the structure and the locking ring (4).
(3) Apply Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the splines on the slat torque-shaft.
NOTE: For the lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
(4) Put the PPU adaptor plate (1) and the locking ring (4) in the correct position on the structure and the torque shaft. (5) Install the bolts (6) and the nuts (2).
(6) Install the pin (3) and safety it with the retaining ring (5).
(7) Apply a layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Soft Film - (Material No.12ACC1) to the nuts (2) and the heads of the bolts (6).
(8) Install the APPU (Ref. AMM TASK 27-81-18-400-001).

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the applicable access panel:
(a) FOR [6048CM] (SLAT APPU ADAPTER)
install 522UB
(b) FOR [6098CM] (SLAT APPU ADAPTER)
install 622UB.

(2) Remove the access platform(s).
