Removal of the Fire Extinguisher Bottle

WARNING: THE CARTRIDGE IS AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE. REMOVE IT BEFORE YOU DISASSEMBLE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. TO PREVENT INJURY TO THE PERSONNEL BECAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION OF THE CARTRIDGE IF IT HAS NOT BEEN FIRED:
  • INSTALL A SHUNT DEVICE.
  • THIS WILL SHUNT THE PINS TOGETHER ON THE CARTRIDGE BEFORE ITS REMOVAL.
DO NOT USE A FOIL SHUNT.
WARNING: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE A FULL FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE. A SUDDEN OR HEAVY SHOCK TO A FULL BOTTLE CAN CAUSE UNWANTED DISCHARGE AND INJURY TO PERSONS.

C. Get Access
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START WORK, YOU MUST PUT ON A SAFETY HARNESS AND ATTACH IT TO THE ACCESS PLATFORM. WITHOUT A SAFETY HARNESS, YOU CAN FALL. THIS CAN KILL YOU OR CAUSE YOU INJURY.
   (1) Put on and attach a safety harness before you start work in the work area
   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT)-ADJUSTABLE in position below maintenance door 314AR.
   (3) Open access door 314AR and safety it in the open position.
(Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-23-010-801).
   (4) Set the light switch to on.
4. Procedure
Subtask 26-22-41-020-054-A
A. Removal of the Fire-Extinguisher Bottle (11WF) for Meggitt Assembly
   (1) Remove the fire-extinguisher-bottle cartridge (11) from the fire-extinguisher bottle (17) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-22-42-000-001).
   (2) Removal of the fire-extinguisher discharge outlet (10) and the spray tubing (12):
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Removal of the lockwire:
       1 Remove and discard the lockwire from the discharge outlet (10), the swivel nut (9) and the couplings of the spray tubing (12).
     (b) Remove the clamp (13).
     (c) Hold the spray tubing (12) in position, loosen the nuts (18) on the spray tubing (12) and the discharge outlet (10) and move them back.
     (d) Hold the spray tubing (12) in position, loosen the swivel nut (9). Do not remove the discharge outlet (10) from the fire extinguisher bottle (17).
     (e) Remove the spray tubing (12).
     (f) Remove and discard the O-rings (19) from the spray tubing (12).
     (g) Remove and discard the O-ring (8) from the discharge outlet (10).
     (h) Remove the bushing (20).
     (i) Hold the discharge outlet (10) in position, loosen the swivel nut (9) completely and then remove the discharge outlet (10).
     (j) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
   (3) Remove the fire-extinguisher bottle (17):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Disconnect the electrical connector (16) from the pressure switch on the fire-extinguisher bottle (17).
     (b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
     (c) Release the nut (15) and move the overboard pipe (14) away from the fire-extinguisher bottle (17).
     (d) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
     (e) Remove the nut (6), the bolt (3), the washers (4) and the bonding strap (5).
     (f) Remove the nuts (7), the bolts (1) and the washers (2).
     (g) Install a 30840002 CAP,PROTECTIVE-FIRE EXTINGUISHER SYSTEM on the fire-extinguisher bottle (17).
NOTE: Because of the interchangeability, there are two different bottle suppliers. Install the protective cap supplied by bottle vendor.
     (h) Remove the fire-extinguisher bottle (17).
Subtask 26-22-41-020-057-A
B. Removal of the Fire-Extinguisher Bottle (11WF) for Kidde Assembly
   (1) Remove the fire-extinguisher-bottle cartridge (18) from the fire-extinguisher bottle (19) (Ref. AMM TASK 26-22-42-000-001).
   (2) Removal of the fire-extinguisher discharge outlet (12) and the spray tubing (13):
     (a) Removal of the lockwire:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Remove and discard the lockwire from the discharge outlet (12), the swivel nut (11) and the couplings of the spray tubing (13).
     (b) Remove the clamp (14).
     (c) Hold the spray tubing (13) in position, loosen the nuts (17) on the spray tubing (13) and the discharge outlet (12) and move them back.
     (d) Hold the spray tubing (13) in position, loosen the swivel nut (11) but do not remove the discharge outlet (12) from the fire-extinguisher bottle (19).
     (e) Remove the spray tubing (13).
     (f) Remove and discard the O-rings (16) from the spray tubing (13) and the discharge outlet (12).
     (g) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
   (3) Remove the fire-extinguisher bottle (19):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Remove the screw (3B), move the switch guard (3A) back and disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the pressure switch on the fire-extinguisher bottle (19).
     (b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
     (c) Release the nut (2) and move the overboard pipe (1) away from the fill-and-safety fitting of the fire-extinguisher bottle (19).
       1 Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
       2 Put a CAP - BLANKING on the fill-and-safety fitting of the fire-extinguisher bottle (19).
     (d) Remove the nut (10), the bolt (7), the washer (9) and the bonding strap (8).
     (e) Remove the nuts (4), the bolts (6) and the washers (5).
     (f) Put the 324467 CAP,PROTECTIVE-FIRE EXTINGUISHER SYSTEM on the swivel nut (11).
     (g) Tighten the 324467 CAP,PROTECTIVE-FIRE EXTINGUISHER SYSTEM with your hand.
     (h) Remove the fire-extinguisher bottle (19).
