Removal of the IDG Cables


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the Job
The removal/installation procedures for the IDG cable assembly are identical for both engines.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 24-21-43-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine 1(2).
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) into position on the right side of the engine.
4. Procedure
Subtask 24-21-43-020-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the IDG Cable Assembly from the Engine
   (1) Remove the IDG terminal block cover:
     (a) Remove the screws (11) and washers (10) from the terminal block cover.
     (b) Remove the terminal block cover.
   (2) Disconnect the IDG cables from the IDG:
     (a) Remove the nuts (12) and washers (13) from the four terminal posts.
NOTE: Alternate configuration, remove the four terminal nuts with captive washer(18) from the four terminal posts.
     (b) Disconnect the four IDG cables.
   (3) Disconnect the electrical connector from the aircraft pylon receptacle.
NOTE: If you find signs of arcing in the electrical connector, remove the harness in the pylon (Ref. AMM TASK 24-92-00-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 24-92-00-400-001).
   (4) Remove the IDG cable clips and the cable clamp:
     (a) Remove the bolts (8), washers (17) and nuts (7) from the clips (9).
     (b) Remove the clips (9).
     (c) Remove the bolts (3) and (5) from the clip nuts (6) and the clamp (4).
     (d) Remove the clamp (4) and the support bushes from the IDG cable assembly (2).
   (5) Remove the IDG cable assembly from the engine:
     (a) Remove the nut (1) from the terminal block.
     (b) Remove the IDG cable assembly (2).
     (c) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
