A. Installation of Equipment for Bonding
(a) Refer to the applicable AMM installation task related to the equipment.
(b) Make sure that there are no strains on the bonding strap and it has no twist.
(c) For moisture evacuation, install the braid or cable as near as possible to 6 O'clock for conductor with terminal lug.
(d) For movable parts:
Subtask 20-28-00-420-100-A NOTE: For equipment bonded by metallic clamp refer to subtask Installation of Pipes/Equipment (Light Alloy and Stainless Steel).
(1) Assemble the attachments (captive nuts, rivets, nuts, conductive bolts and/or screws), the bonding strap (if installed), clamps (if installed) and equipment: (a) Refer to the applicable AMM installation task related to the equipment.
(b) Make sure that there are no strains on the bonding strap and it has no twist.
(c) For moisture evacuation, install the braid or cable as near as possible to 6 O'clock for conductor with terminal lug.
(d) For movable parts:
- Make sure that the bonding straps have the correct length and cause no strain when the parts move.
- Install the bonding straps without twist.
- Install the two ends of the bonding strap loosely before you tighten the fasteners.
B. Installation of Pipes/Equipment (Light alloy and Stainless steel)
(1) For P-clamps installed with bonding strips:
(a) Make sure that the bonding strip has no damage and is in position on the clamp (1).
(2) Installation of the metallic bonding clamps:
(a) For pipes or equipment (this does not include the fuel pipes or pipes installed in fuel tanks):
1 Install the bonding clamps on the pipes or the equipment.
2 If the painted pipes or equipment have bared area, put the bonding clamp on the center of the bared area.
3 Make sure that there are no strains on the bonding strap and it does not touch the hardware.
(b) For pipes installed in a fuel tank or a fuel pipes:
1 Install the bonding clamp on the pipe.
2 If the painted pipes or equipment have bared area, put the bonding clamp on the center of the bared area.
3 For non-painted pipes, refer to the pipe installation task to set the clamp position.
4 Make sure that there are no strains on the bonding strap and it does not touch the hardware.
5 When a pipe is engaged in the sockets (if applicable), make sure that the bonding strap does not prevent the sliding motion of the pipe between the sockets.
(3) For clamp blocks:
(a) Make sure that the half conductive clamps touches the pipes.
(4) For bonding straps:
(a) Connect the bonding strap to the clamp or the lug and do not twist the bonding strap.
(b) Connect the other end of the bonding strap with a nut and bolt assembly:
Subtask 20-28-00-420-101-A (1) For P-clamps installed with bonding strips:
(a) Make sure that the bonding strip has no damage and is in position on the clamp (1).
NOTE: The bonding strip gives the electric continuity between the pipe and the bolt.
(b) Install the clamp (1) on the pipe (2) with the bolt, the washer and/or the nut.
- To a bonding lug welded on a different pipe, or
- To a clamp connected to the structure, or
- To the structure.
C. Installation of composite panels with dimpled washers
(1) Make sure that the bare surface is not damaged.
(2) Make sure that the Expanded Copper Foil (ECF) or bronze mesh is not damaged.
(3) Make sure that there are no unwanted material or burrs on the surfaces and no warping.
(4) Install the dimpled washer.
(5) Install the screw.
NOTE: When the dimpled washer touches the ECF or bronze mesh it gives the electrical continuity through the screw to the structure.
