NOTE: Troubleshooting steps denoted from A to E refer to the starting points in the referenced flowchart figure.
Subtask 80-00-00-810-075-A
A. Do a check for ECAM Warning and Maintenance Messages
(1) On the ECAM control panel, set the UPPER DISPLAY and LOWER DISPLAY potentiometers to ON
Ref. AMM 31-60-00-860-001 .
(2) Read the LAST LEG REPORT of the FADEC 2A menu and the LAST LEG REPORT of the FADEC
2B menu on the MCDU (Ref. TSM 70-00-00-03) and make a record of the maintenance message
and fault codes.
(a) If the fault is identified by ECAM warning as ENG 2 START FAULT - LO START AIR PRESS,
continue with fault isolation at starting point B.
(b) If the fault is identified by the ECAM warning as ENG 2 START FAULT - HUNG START, continue
with fault isolation at starting point C.
(c) If there are other engine related ECAM warnings or maintenance status messages identified,
continue with fault isolation at starting point D.
(d) If there are no engine related ECAM warnings or maintenance status messages identified,
continue with fault isolation at starting point E.
Subtask 80-00-00-810-127-A
B. If the fault is identified by ECAM warning as ENG 2 START FAULT - LO START AIR PRESS:
(1) Examine Starter Air Supply.
(a) Examine Starter Air Supply and do an inspection of APU power plant for loose connectors,
worn parts, cracks etc. Ref. AMM 49-20-00-210-001 , Ref. AMM 49-20-00-210-002 or Ref.
AMM 49-20-00-210-003 .
(b) If no fault is found, continue with step (2).
(2) Make sure the starter air pressure, minimum 25 psi required for auto start Ref.
AMM 71-00-00-710-043 .
(a) Examine the starter ducts for cracks, dents or damage Ref. AMM 80-13-49-200-010 .
(b) Examine Cross Bleed Valve Ref. AMM 36-12-00-710-002 .
(c) Examine all pneumatic tube connectors from diffuser case through bifurcation panel, through
solenoids to bleed valves, for loose fittings or indication of leakage.
(d) If no fault is found, continue with step (3).
(3) Do the functional test of the pneumatic starter valve (through FADEC 2A and FADEC 2B menus) Ref.
AMM 80-13-51-710-040 .
NOTE: The starter air valve can also be opened/closed manually using a 9.52 mm (0.38 in.) square
drive. Access is through a panel in the right hand side fan cowl door. A valve position indicator
is given on the valve body. A micro switch gives valve position feed back information to the
EEC.
(a) If no fault is found, continue with step (4).
(4) Examine the ECS valves as below:
(a) Do an inspection of the PRV to make sure that the valve is closed during start Ref.
AMM 36-11-52-720-010 .
(b) Do a functional test of the HP Bleed Valve (4000HA) Ref. AMM 36-11-51-720-001 .
(c) Do a functional test of the SOLENOID-BLEED PRESS REG V CTL, ENG 2 ( 10HA2 ) Ref.
AMM 36-11-55-720-001 .
(d) Do a check of the CHECK VALVE-APU BLEED ( 7260HM ) Ref. AMM 36-12-51-200-001 .
(e) If no fault is found, continue to step (5).
(5) Do the functional test of the Bleed Regulated Pressure Transducer (8HA2) Ref.
AMM 36-11-16-720-001 .
Subtask 80-00-00-810-128-A
C. If the fault is identified by ECAM warning as ENG 2 START FAULT - HUNG START, monitor the achieved
N2 speed:
· If the achieved N2 speed is more than 20 percent, start at step (4).
· If the achieved N2 speed is less than 20 percent, continue with step (1):
(1) Examine Starter Air Supply.
(a) Examine Starter Air Supply and do an inspection of APU power plant for loose connectors, worn
parts, cracks etc. Ref. AMM 49-20-00-210-001 .
(b) If no fault is found, continue with step (2).
(2) Make sure the starter air pressure, minimum 25 psi required for auto start Ref.
AMM 71-00-00-710-043 .
(a) Examine the starter ducts for cracks, dents or damage Ref. AMM 80-13-49-200-010 .
(b) Examine Cross Bleed Valve Ref. AMM 36-12-00-710-002 .
(c) Examine all pneumatic tube connectors from diffuser case through bifurcation panel, through
solenoids to bleed valves, for loose fittings or indication of leakage.
(d) If no fault is found, continue with step (3).
(3) Do the functional test of the pneumatic starter valve (through FADEC 2A and FADEC 2B menus) Ref.
AMM 80-13-51-710-040 .
NOTE: The starter air valve can also be opened/closed manually using a 9.52 mm (0.38 in.) square

(a) If no fault is found, continue with step (4).
(4) Do the functional test of the valves that follow:
(a) HP compressor stage 7 bleed valve Ref. AMM 75-32-52-700-011 .
(b) HP compressor stage 10 bleed valve Ref. AMM 75-32-54-700-011 .
(c) HP compressor stage 7 solenoid valve Ref. AMM 75-32-51-700-010 .
(d) HP compressor stage 10 solenoid valve Ref. AMM 75-32-53-700-010 .
(e) If no fault is found, continue with step (5).
(5) Examine PB sense line for leakage and water contamination. Purge the burner pressure sensor tube
if applicable Ref. AMM 73-22-49-790-010 and Ref. AMM 73-22-49-220-040 .
(a) If no fault is found, continue with step (6).
(6) Examine the start-up fuel flow in the ENGINE START REPORT <10> Ref. AMM 31-37-73-00 .
· If the start-up fuel flow is below 300 kg/h (660 lb/h):
(a) Do an operational test of the ENG 2 LP fuel valve (13 QM) Ref. AMM 28-24-00-710-002 .
· If no fault is found, continue with step (b):
(b) Replace FMU ( 4000KC ) Ref. AMM 73-22-52-000-010 and Ref. AMM 73-22-52-400-010 .
(c) Replace PUMP-LP/HP-FUEL (2001EM1) Ref. AMM 73-12-41-000-010 and Ref.
AMM 73-12-41-400-010 .
· If no fault is found above, or if the fuel flow is more than 300 kg/h (660 lb/h), continue with step
(7).
(7) Do the functional test of the EGT Harness and Junction Box Ref. AMM 77-21-43-700-010 and do the
repair as necessary.
(8) Examine the starter and its chip detector Ref. AMM 80-13-41-200-010 and replace the
STARTER ( 100KM ) if applicable Ref. AMM 80-13-41-000-010 and Ref. AMM 80-13-41-400-010 .
· If no fault is found, continue with step (9).
(9) Examine the fuel spray nozzles adjacent to ignitors for contamination, blockage or burns and
replace the NOZZLE-FUEL ( 2005EM ) if necessary Ref. AMM 73-13-41-000-010 and Ref.
AMM 73-13-41-400-010 .
· If no fault is found, continue with step (10).
(10) Do the borescope inspection of the HP compressor Ref. AMM 72-00-00-200-016 .
Subtask 80-00-00-810-129-A
D. If the fault identified by ECAM Warning is other than those Stated in Paragraph 4. A. (2) (a) and 4. A. (2)
(b):
(1) Identify the Clear Language Message and Fault Acronym from the LAST LEG REPORT and do the
applicable troubleshooting procedure related to the Clear Language Message.
(2) Do an engine ground run Ref. AMM 71-00-00-710-043 and/or Ref. AMM 71-00-00-710-047 and
make sure that the engine start is successful without more fault messages received.
· If the engine start is not successful, start the troubleshooting again at Fault Isolation A.
Subtask 80-00-00-810-135-A
E. If warning fault messages or the maintenance messages are not identified, continue with Fault Isolation at
starting point E and monitor the achieved N2 speed and EGT:
(1) If the engine does not accelerate or N2 does not exceed 10 percent, continue with step (a) below:
(a) Examine Starter Air Supply.
1 Examine Starter Air Supply and do an inspection of APU power plant for loose connectors,
worn parts, cracks etc. Ref. AMM 49-20-00-210-001 .
2 If no fault is found, continue with step (b).
(b) Make sure the starter air pressure, minimum 25 psi required for auto start Ref.
AMM 71-00-00-710-043 .
1 Examine the starter ducts for cracks, dents or damage Ref. AMM 80-13-49-200-010 .
2 Examine Cross Bleed Valve Ref. AMM 36-12-00-710-002 .
3 Examine all pneumatic tube connectors from diffuser case through bifurcation panel, through
solenoids to bleed valves, for loose fittings or indication of leakage.
4 If no fault is found, continue with step (c).
(c) Do the functional test of the pneumatic starter valve (through FADEC 2A and FADEC 2B menus)
Ref. AMM 80-13-51-710-040 .
NOTE: The starter air valve can also be opened/closed manually using a 9.52 mm (0.38 in.)
square drive. Access is through a panel in the right hand side fan cowl door. A valve position

1 If no fault is found, continue with step (d).
(d) Examine the ECS valves as below:

2 Do a functional test of the HP Bleed Valve (4000HA) Ref. AMM 36-11-51-720-001 .
3 Do a functional test of the SOLENOID-BLEED PRESS REG V CTL, ENG 2 ( 10HA2 ) Ref.
AMM 36-11-55-720-001 .
4 Do a check of the CHECK VALVE-APU BLEED ( 7260HM ) Ref. AMM 36-12-51-200-001 .
5 If no fault is found, continue with step (e).
(e) Examine the Starter (100KM) Ref. AMM 80-13-41-200-010 .
1 If no fault is found, continue with step (f).
(f) Do a check for N2 speed signal fault Ref. AMM 77-10-00-00 .
1 If no fault is found, continue with step (g).
(g) Do a check for seized HP rotor.
1 Do Dry Motor Leak Check to examine if the HP rotor is seized Ref. AMM 71-00-00-710-045 .
(2) If the engine accelerates over 10 percent of N2 speed but no increase of EGT could be monitored,
continue with step (a) below:
(a) Examine the start-up fuel flow in the ENGINE START REPORT <10> Ref. AMM 31-37-73-00 .
· If the fuel flow reported is less than 300 kg/h (660 lb/h), continue with step 1_ below:
· If the fuel flow reported is more than 300kg/h (660 lb/h), start at step 4_.
1 Examine the Fuel System.
· Examine the fuel filters Ref. AMM 73-12-42-200-010 .
· Examine the engine fuel tubes Ref. AMM 73-11-49-200-010 .
· Do a check for leakage above acceptable limits from the fuel pump seal drain Ref.
AMM 71-70-00-600-010 .
· Repair or exchange fuel pump as necessary.
· If no fault is found, continue with step 2_.
2 Do an operational test of the ENG 2 LP fuel valve 13QM Ref. AMM 28-24-00-710-002 .
· If no fault is found, continue with step 3_.
3 Do the test No. 3, Idle Leak Check Ref. AMM 71-00-00-710-012 .
4 Do the operational test of the ignition system Ref. AMM 74-00-00-710-041 .
· If no faults are found from the ignition system test, proceed to step 9_.
· If the ignition system test returns a fault, continue with step 5_.
5 Examine the ignitor plug (4001JH2) Ref. AMM 74-21-41-200-010 and replace the
PLUG-IGNITER, B ( 4001JH2 ) if applicable Ref. AMM 74-21-41-000-010 and Ref.
AMM 74-21-41-400-010 .
· If no fault is found, continue with step 6_.
6 Examine the ignition leads (4002JH2) Ref. AMM 74-21-43-200-001 and replace the
LEAD-IGNITION, B ( 4002JH2 ) if applicable Ref. AMM 74-21-43-000-010 and Ref.
AMM 74-21-43-400-010 .
· If no fault is found, continue with step 7_.
7 Replace the EXCITER-IGNITION, B ( 4000JH2 ) Ref. AMM 74-11-38-000-010 and Ref.
AMM 74-11-38-400-010 .
· If no fault is found, continue with step 8_.
8 Replace the RELAY BOX ( 4100KS ) Ref. AMM 71-51-49-000-010 and Ref.
AMM 71-51-49-400-010 .
9 Examine the fuel spray nozzles adjacent to the ignitors for contamination, blockage or
burns and replace fuel nozzles if necessary Ref. AMM 73-13-41-000-010 and Ref.
AMM 73-13-41-400-010 .
(3) If the engine accelerates over 25 percent of the N2 speed with increase in EGT but the start is hung
or hot, continue with step (a) below:
(a) Make sure the starter air pressure, minimum 25 psi required for auto start Ref.
AMM 71-00-00-710-043 .
1 Examine the starter ducts for cracks, dents or damage Ref. AMM 80-13-49-200-010 .
2 Examine X-Bleed Valve Ref. AMM 36-12-00-710-002 .
3 Examine all pneumatic tube connectors from diffuser case through bifurcation panel, through
solenoid to bleed valves, for loose fittings or indication of leakage.
4 If no fault is found, continue with step (b).
(b) Do the functional test of the valves that follow:
1 HP compressor stage 7 bleed valve Ref. AMM 75-32-52-700-011 .
2 HP compressor stage 10 bleed valve Ref. AMM 75-32-54-700-011 .
3 HP compressor stage 7 solenoid valve Ref. AMM 75-32-51-700-010 .
4 HP compressor stage 10 solenoid valve Ref. AMM 75-32-53-700-010 .
5 If no fault is found, continue with step (c).
(c) Examine PB sense line for leakage and water contamination . Purge the burner pressure sensor
tube if applicable Ref. AMM 73-22-49-790-010 and Ref. AMM 73-22-49-220-040 .
1 If no fault is found, continue with step (d).
(d) Examine the VSV actuator data plate.
1 If the part number is 1685MK6 or 1685MK7, replace the ACTUATOR-VSV ( 4022KS ) with
VSV actuator part number 2607MK1 or 2607MK2 respectively Ref. AMM 75-32-41-000-010
and Ref. AMM 75-32-41-400-010 .
2 If no fault is found, continue with step (e).
(e) Examine the VSV mechanism Ref. AMM 75-32-42-200-010 .
(f) Examine the Fuel System
1 Examine the fuel filters Ref. AMM 73-12-42-200-010 .
2 Examine engine fuel tubes Ref. AMM 73-11-49-200-010 .
3 Do a check for leakage above acceptable limits from the fuel pump seal drain. Ref.
AMM 71-70-00-600-010 .
4 Repair or exchange fuel pump as necessary.
5 If no fault is found, continue with step (g).
(g) Do the functional test of the EGT Harness and Junction Box Ref. AMM 77-21-43-700-010 and
do the repair as necessary.
1 If no fault is found, continue with step (h).
(h) Examine the ECS valves as below:
1 Do an inspection of the PRV to make sure that the valve is closed during start. Ref.
AMM 36-11-52-720-010 .
2 Do a functional test of the HP Bleed Valve (4000HA) Ref. AMM 36-11-51-720-001 .
3 Do a functional test of the SOLENOID-BLEED PRESS REG V CTL, ENG 2 ( 10HA2 ) Ref.
AMM 36-11-55-720-001 .
4 Do a check of the CHECK VALVE-APU BLEED ( 7260HM ) Ref. AMM 36-12-51-200-001 .
5 If no fault is found, continue with step (i).
(i) Replace the FMU ( 4000KC ) Ref. AMM 73-22-52-000-010 and Ref. AMM 73-22-52-400-010 .
(j) Replace the PUMP-LP/HP-FUEL (2001EM1) Ref. AMM 73-12-41-000-010 and Ref.
AMM 73-12-41-400-010 .
(k) Examine the fuel spray nozzles adjacent to ignitors for contamination, blockage or
burns and replace the fuel nozzles if necessary Ref. AMM 73-13-41-000-010 and Ref.
AMM 73-13-41-400-010 .
