Subtask 72-00-00-710-076-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Not Applicable
NOTE: This condition is described as a kind of candle fire phenomena due to oil accumulation into the exhaust plug cavity. A candle fire is a smoke with possible flames inside the center plug cavity or exhaust.
4. Fault Isolation
Subtask 72-00-00-810-073-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Examine the engine to find the cause of the engine fire
   (1) If you find that the fire/smoke was located into the exhaust plug of the engine, do the steps that follows:
     (a) Do a visual inspection of the Aft Sump Oil System AMM 79-00-00-210-007.
     (b) During Aft Sump Oil System inspection, be very careful to:
       1 The flame arrestor condition
Do an Inspection/Check of the Turbine Frame Assembly AMM 72-56-00-210-001.
a If heavy cocking or oil signs are found, clean the flame arrestor, refer to CFMI SPM 702111 (Solvent Degreasing of All Materials, Except Titanium Alloys) or CFMI SPM 702112 (Vapor Degreasing).
2 The oil inlet cover preformed packing (Ref AIPC 72-56-00-02-130).
3 The oil inlet cover seal gasket (Ref AIPC 72-56-00-02-140).
     (c) If nothing is found and the tail pipe fire is repetitive.
1 The cause can related to the deterioration of the LPT aft-air/oil seals.
a Engine removal must be planned for shop inspection and teardown.
Subtask 72-00-00-810-073-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Examine the engine to find the cause of the engine fire
WARNING: YOU MUST FIND AND OBEY THE MANUFACTURER'S HEALTH AND SAFETY DATA FOR THE MATERIAL (MSDS). YOU MUST ALSO REFER TO LOCAL REGULATIONS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PROCEDURES ARE DONE SAFELY. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, AN INJURY OR ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
   (1) If you find that the fire/smoke was located into the exhaust plug of the engine, do the steps that follows:
     (a) Do a visual inspection of the aft sump oil system AMM 79-00-00-210-006.
  • Pay particular attention to:
1 The flame arrestor condition .
Do an inspection/check of the turbine frame assembly AMM 72-56-00-210-002.
a If heavy cocking or oil signs are found, clean the flame arrestor with stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) or acetone (Material No.CP1039) or Ardrox 552 (Material No.CP2559) or Turco ind 79 (Material No.CP2560) or Magchem teksol (Material No.CP2566) or Degreasol 99 R (Material No.CP2584) or Magchem skysol (Material No.CP2656) or white spirit (Material No.CP2010) .
2 Inspect the center vent tube rear extension duct seals AMM 72-55-00-200-002.
3 The oil inlet cover preformed packing AIPC 72560002 item 130.
a If the oil inlet cover O-ring is damaged, replace the O-ring.
4 The oil inlet cover seal gasket AIPC 72560002 item 140.
a If the oil inlet cover gasket seal is damaged, replace the gasket seal.
     (b) If nothing is found and the tail pipe fire is repetitive, the cause can related to the deterioration of the Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) aft-air/oil seals.
1 Engine removal must be planned for shop inspection and teardown.
NOTE: As long as the oil pressure and oil consumption are within limits, this condition is not detrimental to the engine, the work must be planned at next suitable maintenance visit at operator convenience.
