MLG Door (LH) Does Not Open Fully

TASK 32-31-00-810-857-A
MLG Door (LH) Does Not Open Fully

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
  • THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
  • COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
1. Possible Causes
  • 2523GM
  • MLG (LH) door operating mechanism
  • MLG proximity sensor and target clearances
  • MLG (LH) door uplock units and pins
  • MLG (LH) door forward and aft fitting
2. Job Set-up Information

Subtask 32-31-00-860-089-A
A. Test
   (1) Do a check of the Post Flight Report:
  • if two CFDS L L/G DOOR OPEN PROX SNSR TGT POS messages related to the same door, for the same flight are shown
    or
  • if the ECAM WARNING, GEAR NOT DOWNLOCKED with two L L/G DOOR OPEN PROX SNSR TGT POS CFDS messages related to the same door are shown
    or
  • if the MLG door was not easy to open on the ground:
     (a) Do the fault isolation procedure in Para 4.
4. Fault Isolation
Subtask 32-31-00-810-115-A
A. Procedure
NOTE: The procedure that follows gives the information necessary to identify mechanical faults related to the MLG (LH) door.
   (1) Do the operational test of the MLG doors AMM 32-12-00-710-002.
   (2) Use the door-opening control handle to manually open the MLG (LH) door and make sure:
  • the door opens with gravity to the position at which the actuator is vertical
  • the door moves smoothly and continuously (there are no sudden changes of speed).
   (3) Open the L/G door to the position at which the door actuator is vertical:
  • the time to travel from the door closed to the actuator vertical position, must not be more than 30 seconds
  • measure the time from when the L/G door starts to open until the L/G door is shown fully open on the wheel page.
   (4) If the L/G door has not fully opened, make sure that:
  • the door can be pushed easily to the fully open position with only one hand
  • the door moves smoothly and continuously and there are no sudden changes of speed (hydraulic resistance only).
   (5) Move the L/G door away from the fully open position approximately 30 degrees, and back to the fully open position to make sure that:
  • the door moves smoothly and continuously and there are no sudden changes of speed (hydraulic resistance only).
   (6) With the L/G door open measure the dimension X, it must be a minimum of 385 mm (15.1575 in.).
   (7) If one or more of the tests in steps (2) to (6) are unsatisfactory, replace the 2523GM AMM 32-31-35-000-001 and AMM 32-31-35-400-001.
   (8) If the fault continues, and no fault is found in steps (2) to (6):
     (a) Do a detailed inspection of the MLG (LH) door operating mechanism, inspect the components for:
  • safety of attachment
  • damage
  • corrosion
  • oil leaks.
   (9) Do the inspection of the MLG proximity sensor and target clearances AMM 32-31-73-200-001.
   (10) Do the detailed visual inspection of the MLG (LH) door uplock units and pins AMM 32-31-00-200-001.
   (11) Do the detailed visual inspection of the MLG (LH) door forward and aft fitting AMM 52-81-00-200-001.
   (12) If a fault is found, correct as necessary.
   (13) Do the functional test of the normal extension and retraction of the landing gear AMM 32-31-00-720-002.
   (14) If it was necessary to do a gravity extension of the landing gear (because of the MLG door fault), do a functional check of the free-fall extension AMM 32-33-00-720-001.
5. Close-up
Subtask 32-31-00-942-058-A
A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
