NLG Doors Do Not Open Fully

TASK 32-31-00-810-856-A
NLG Doors Do Not Open Fully

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
  • THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
  • COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
1. Possible Causes
  • nose landing gear doors operating mechanism
  • nose gear door clearances and mismatches
  • NLG proximity sensor and target clearances
  • NLG door uplock units and pins
  • rotating rod of the nose gear aft door
  • ACTG CYL-NLG DOOR [2531GM]
  • SAFETY VALVE-NLG DOOR OPENING [2630GM]
  • SAFETY VALVE-NLG DOOR CLOSING [2629GM]

3. Fault Confirmation
Subtask 32-31-00-860-088-A
A. Procedure
   (1) If it was necessary to do a gravity extension of the landing gear (because of the NLG door fault), do the functional check of the free-fall extension AMM 32-33-00-720-001.
   (2) Do a check of the Post Flight Report (PFR):
  • If there are two DOOR OPEN PROX SNSR TGT POS messages related to the same door, with the ECAM warning LGCIU 1(2) FAULT
    or
  • If there is a CFDS NLG DOOR NOT FULLY OPEN message shown:
     (a) Do the fault isolation procedure in Para. 4.A.(1).
   (3) If the PFR does not show a fault with the landing gear doors:
     (a) Do a check of the Last Leg Report (LLR) for LGCIU1 and LGCIU2.
     (b) Do the fault isolation procedure in Para. 4.A.(1).
NOTE: It is possible that there are two sets of messages related to the two NLG doors, but only one set is shown on the PFR. Do a check of the Last Leg Report (LLR) for LGCIU1 and LGCIU2 to show if each NLG door, or only one NLG door, was not fully open.
   (4) If the NLG doors operate slowly or the movement is not smooth and continuous, do Para. 4.A.(10).
   (5) If the NLG doors are not easy to open with the ground control-handle:
     (a) Open the NLG doors AMM 32-22-00-010-001.
     (b) When the doors are fully open, on the ECAM lower DU, make sure that:
  • the NLG door symbols are amber and in the doors-fully-open position.
NOTE: When you use the ground control-handle, it is usually necessary to manually help the door move to the fully open position.
     (c) Close the NLG doors AMM 32-22-00-410-001.
     (d) If the door operates slowly or the movement is not smooth and continuous, do Para. 4.A.(10).
4. Fault Isolation
Subtask 32-31-00-810-114-A
A. Procedure
NOTE: The procedure that follows gives the information necessary to identify mechanical faults related to the NLG doors.
   (1) Do the detailed visual inspection of the nose landing gear doors operating mechanism AMM 32-30-00-200-001.
   (2) Do a check of the nose gear door clearances and mismatches AMM 32-22-00-220-001.
   (3) Do the inspection of the NLG proximity sensor and target clearances AMM 32-31-73-200-002.
   (4) Do the detailed visual inspection of the NLG door uplock units and pins AMM 32-31-00-200-001.
   (5) Do the visual inspection of the rotating rod of the nose gear aft door AMM 32-22-00-200-001.
   (6) If a fault is found, correct as necessary.
   (7) Do the functional test of the normal extension and retraction of the nose landing gear AMM 32-31-00-720-003.
   (8) If the fault continues, the NLG doors operate slowly or the fault continues after the subsequent flight, replace the ACTG CYL-NLG DOOR [2531GM] AMM 32-31-16-000-001 and AMM 32-31-16-400-001.
   (9) If the fault continues, replace the SAFETY VALVE-NLG DOOR OPENING [2630GM] AMM 32-31-19-000-001 and AMM 32-31-19-000-001.
   (10) If the NLG door(s) operate slowly or the movement is not smooth and continuous, do the subsequent step:
     (a) Do a detailed visual inspection of the nose landing gear doors operating mechanism AMM 32-30-00-200-001.
     (b) Do the detailed inspection of the NLG Door Hinges, LH/RH.
   (11) If a fault is found, correct the fault and do the functional test of the normal extension and retraction of the nose landing gear AMM 32-31-00-720-003.
   (12) If no fault is found, replace the SAFETY VALVE-NLG DOOR CLOSING [2629GM] and SAFETY VALVE-NLG DOOR OPENING [2630GM] AMM 32-31-19-000-001 and AMM 32-31-19-400-001.
