TASK 28-42-00-810-879-A
The Fuel Quantity Indications Go Inoperative Or Degraded Associated With Multiple Fuel Probe Failures Due To Water & Microbiological Contamination

WARNING: OBEY THE FUEL SAFETY PROCEDURES.
1. Possible Causes
  • Refuelling with poor quality fuel
  • failure to fully do the basic water/microbiological servicing tasks
2. Job Set-up Information

Subtask 28-42-00-710-120-A
A. Test
   (1) If you have:

  • entered this TSM TASK because the FQIs go inoperative or degraded with multiple fuel probe failures (but have not at this time done a check for water and/or microbiological contamination in the fuel-tanks), continue at step (2)

  • found water in the fuel-tanks, continue at step (3)

  • found (moderate/heavy) microbiological contamination in the fuel-tanks, do Para. 4.A.
   (2) Do the procedure Drain Water Content AMM 12-32-28-281-001.
   (3) Do the procedure Sample the Fuel for Microbiological Contamination Analysis AMM 12-32-28-281-003.
   (4) If you find water in step (2) and/or (moderate/heavy) microbiological contamination in step (3), do Para. 4.A.
4. Fault Isolation
Subtask 28-42-00-810-137-A
A. Procedure
   (1) Do the procedure for the Removal of Microbiological Particles AMM 28-11-00-600-003.
   (2) Do the applicable procedure for the Biocidal Shock Treatment for Moderate/Heavy Contamination (Ref. AMM 281100 P.BLOCK 301).
   (3) In future:
     (a) Make sure you use fuel of the correct specification.
     (b) Make sure all the steps in the applicable fuel and fuel tank scheduled servicing tasks in the Maintenance Planning Document (MPD) are done.
     (c) Make sure all the water drain steps during the applicable refuel procedure (Ref. AMM 121128 P.BLOCK 301) are done.
NOTE: Refuelling with poor quality fuel is a constant possibility for all aircraft. Thus water drainage is the primary maintenance action to keep the water and microbiological contamination to a mimimum.

A failure to fully do the basic water/microbiological servicing tasks will increase the possibility that it will become necessary (some time in the future) to do this procedure again.
