   (1) If necessary, refuel, defuel or transfer fuel AMM 12-11-28-650-003 AMM 28-25-00-650-001 or AMM 28-25-00-869-001 to get the fuel load in the wing tanks as follows:
  • on the side that the FQI is seen (or reported) to decrease - to FULL
  • on the side that the FQI is seen (or reported) to increase - to between a maximum of 910 kg (2000 lb) and a minimum of 750 kg (1660 lb)
  • the center tank - Not Applicable.
   (2) Set the fuel pumps to OFF.
   (3) On the ECAM FUEL System Page monitor, the left and right wing tank FQIs
NOTE: The resolution of the individual FQI tank values shown is 10 kg (20 lb).
     (a) If the FQIs remain the same for an acceptable period:
  • maintenance steps are not necessary.
     (b) If the wing tank that was filled to full is seen to decrease (and the fuel transfers to the other wing):
  • go to Para. 4.A.

B. Procedure
   (1) If the intercell transfer valve system (status):
     (a) Is known to be serviceable, go to step (10).
     (b) Is not known:
1 Make sure that the left and right wing tank inner cells contain more than 1500 kg (3300 lb) of fuel. If necessary, refuel, defuel or transfer fuel AMM 12-11-28-650-003 AMM 28-25-00-650-001 or AMM 28-25-00-869-001.
NOTE: These inner cell fuel levels are necessary to let the FQIC do the section of the power on FQIS/FLSS BITE test that includes the intercell transfer valves (28-15-00).
NOTE: The wing tank fuel load has to be reconfigured in step (10) and possibly again at the end of this procedure. Do not let the fuel tanker go unless you are sure that you will not require it again.
   (2) Do the power on BITE test of the FQIS/FLSS as follows:
     (a) If the FQIS is not energized:
       1 Close the C/Bs 1QT and 2QT.
2 Energize the Aircraft Electrical Circuits from the External Power AMM 24-41-00-861-002.
     (b) If the FQIS is energized, reset the FQIC as follows:
       1 Open the C/Bs 1QT and 2QT.
       2 Wait 5 seconds.
       3 Close the C/Bs 1QT and 2QT.
NOTE: For the FQIC to do a (new) power up BITE test, a power supply interrupt (interval) of more than 5 seconds is necessary. This gives the current status of the FQIS/FLSS components.
   (3) Do the EIS Start Procedure (ECAM only) AMM 31-60-00-860-001.
   (4) On the ECAM control panel, push (in) the FUEL P/BSW.
   (5) Make sure that the FUEL page shows on the ECAM lower display unit.
   (6) Wait 60 seconds.
   (7) Continue as follows:
NOTE: The FUEL page FQIs will show XXs in amber color for 35 seconds during the FQIC power up BITE test and the intercell transfer valves can be seen to move.
     (a) Do the procedure to get access to the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST menu page AMM 31-32-00-860-001.
     (b) When the SYSTEM REPORT/TEST menu page comes into view, push the line key adjacent to FUEL.
     (c) When the FUEL menu page 1 comes into view, push the NEXT PAGE key on the MCDU keyboard to see the FUEL menu page 2.
NOTE: If a menu has more than one page (shown by the more to come symbol > on the top line, right side of the MCDU display) each operation of the NEXT PAGE key on the MCDU keyboard will cause the next page to be shown. When the last page of any menu is shown, operation of the NEXT PAGE key will cause the first page to be shown.
     (d) When the FUEL menu page 2 comes into view, push the line key adjacent to:
  • FQIS STATUS, for 06 FQIC Software Standard
  • FLSS STATUS, for 07 or later FQIC Software Standard.
   (8) Examine the applicable FQIS/FLSS STATUS Page.
   (9) If a 281500 FUEL INTERCELL TRANSFER message:

  • is shown, trouble-shoot the identified LRU and then do the step (10)

  • is not shown, do the step (10).
   (10) If necessary, refuel, defuel or transfer fuel AMM 12-11-28-650-003 AMM 28-25-00-650-001 or AMM 28-25-00-869-001 to get the fuel load in the left and right wings as follows:
  • the outercell - to FULL
  • the innercell - to between a maximum of 910 kg (2000 lb) and a minimum of 750 kg (1660 lb)
  • the center tank - Not Applicable.
NOTE: The fuel surface, in the inner cells, at these fuel levels will be below the Rib 15 but above the low level sensors that cause (initiate) the intercell transfer valves to open.
   (11) Set the fuel pumps to OFF.
   (12) On the ECAM FUEL System Page monitor:
  • the outercells FQIs
  • the innercells FQIs.
NOTE: The resolution of the individual FQI tank values shown is 10 kg (20 lb).
     (a) If the FQIs remain the same for an acceptable period:
  • maintenance steps are not necessary.
     (b) If the outercell FQI is seen to decrease to between approximately 110 kg (240 lb) and 120 kg (260 lb):
  • go to Para. 4.A.
NOTE: The kg and lb FQI values given in step (12)(b) are not direct equivalents but have been rounded off to match the resolution of the displays.
4. Fault Isolation
