Removal of the Starter
WARNING:
DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL OR INSTALLATION OF THE STARTER. IT WEIGHS 33lbs (15kg). IF IT FALLS, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING:
IF IT IS NECESSARY TO ENERGIZE THE AIRCRAFT FOR A MAINTENANCE WORK WHILE YOU DO THIS MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, MAKE SURE THAT ONLY EXTERNAL POWER IS USED. THE USE OF APU OR ENGINE POWER CAN CAUSE PRESSURIZED AIR LEAKAGE IN THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM, AND INJURY CAN OCCUR.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
(4) On the APU section of OVERHEAD CTL & IND panel 25VU:
(a) Make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is released.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the APU.
(5) On AIR COND panel 30VU:

(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.

- Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off),
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.
- Make sure that the X-BLEED selector switch is in the SHUT position.
B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
(a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

(b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
(a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR.
(b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR.
Subtask 80-13-41-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Remove the Starter.
(1) Remove the lower air duct from the starter
(a) Hold the lower duct (7) and disconnect the clamps (6) and (4).
(b) Remove the lower duct and gaskets (5) and (8). Discard the gaskets.
(2) Disconnect the quick detach clamp (9) from the adapter housing (1).
(3) Move the starter (3) forward to disengage the adapter splines and the starter splines.
(4) Remove the starter.
(5) Remove the sealing ring (2) from the starter drive shaft.
(6) Discard the sealing ring.
Subtask 80-13-41-620-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the lower air duct from the starter
(a) Hold the lower duct (7) and disconnect the clamps (6) and (4).
(b) Remove the lower duct and gaskets (5) and (8). Discard the gaskets.
(2) Disconnect the quick detach clamp (9) from the adapter housing (1).
(3) Move the starter (3) forward to disengage the adapter splines and the starter splines.
(4) Remove the starter.
(5) Remove the sealing ring (2) from the starter drive shaft.
(6) Discard the sealing ring.
B. Install CAP - BLANKING to all openings.
