Analysis of the Engine Oil for Contamination


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE OIL AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
1. Reason for the Job
Use this procedure to evaluate the condition of the Front Bearing Compartment (FBC) if any of the following faults were detected : high Main Oil Pressure (MOP), high Main Oil Temperature (MOT), Variable Oil Reduction Valve (VORV) out of position or Oil Debris Monitor (ODM) debris indication.

A. Analysis of the Engine Oil for Contamination
   (1) Inspect the Front Bearing Compartment (FBC) chip collector (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-281-802).
   (2) If no debris is found, do a check of the FBC chip collector within 200 hours.
   (3) If no debris is found during the second check of the chip collector, no further action is required.
