Removal of the Adaptor Ring Assembly


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 78-36-42-941-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL, 448AR
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.

C. Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041).

D. Remove the thrust reverser half doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-11-000-002)
4. Procedure

A. Removal of the Adaptor Ring Assembly
NOTE: At some locations, brackets are installed on the forward face of the flange with the same hardware that attaches the adaptor ring to the aft face of the flange. When you remove the adaptor ring, reinstall the nuts loosely to hold these brackets in their correct locations until the ring is reinstalled.
   (1) Remove the hold-open rods and fittings as follows:

     (a) Remove the quick release pin from the hold-open rod and the lower bracket.
     (b) Remove the nuts, the bolts, and the washers which attach the upper bracket on the outer flange.
     (c) Remove the hold-open rod and the upper bracket.
     (d) Remove the two nuts, the bolts, and the washers which attach the lower bracket on the outer flange.
     (e) Remove the lower bracket.
     (f) If necessary, remove the three nuts, the bolts, the washers, and the spacers which attach the crankpin on the cheeks.
     (g) Remove the crankpin.
   (2) Remove the upper strut and the upper channel bracket as follows:

     (a) Remove the six screws which attach the upper strut on the channel bracket.
     (b) Remove the upper strut.
     (c) Remove the eight bolts and the washers which attach the channel bracket on the strut.
     (d) Remove the channel bracket.
   (3) Remove the upper outer seal fitting as follows:

     (a) Remove the bead of sealant from between the upper outer seal fitting and the outer flanges No. 1 and No. 2 with a SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
     (b) Remove the four bolts, the two screws and the nuts which attach the seal fitting on the fan frame.
     (c) Remove the upper seal fitting.
   (4) Remove the lower struts as follows:

     (a) Remove the beads of sealant from between the lower struts and the lower stop fittings with a SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
     (b) Remove the screws which attach the lower struts.
     (c) Remove the lower struts.
   (5) Remove the lower stop fitting as follows:

     (a) Remove the nuts, the screws, the bolts, and the washers which attach the stop fitting.
     (b) Remove the stop fitting.
   (6) Remove the outer flange as follows:

     (a) Remove the bolts, the washers, and the nuts which attach the outer flanges on the fan frame.
     (b) Remove the nuts (20) and the screws (10) which attach the aft acoustical panel to the outer flange.
     (c) Remove the outer flange.
   (7) Remove the left and right struts as follows:

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Remove and discard the lockwire.
     (b) Remove the bolts and the washers which attach the struts.
     (c) Remove the struts.
   (8) Remove the right splice assembly as follows:

     (a) Remove the screws which attach the splice assembly.
     (b) Remove the right splice assembly.
   (9) Remove the upper forward seal fitting as follows:

F Adaptor Ring Assembly ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Remove the screws which attach the seal fitting on the left and right inner flanges.
     (b) Remove the upper forward seal fitting.
   (10) Remove the inner flange as follows:

     (a) Remove the bolts, the washers, and the screws which attach the inner flange on the fan frame.
     (b) Remove the inner flange.
Subtask 78-36-42-110-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Removal and Cleaning of the Sealant:
   (1) Remove the sealant from the lower struts, the lower stop, the pipe bundle box, the lower channel bracket, the upper forward seal fitting, the outer flanges, the upper outer seal fitting, the inner flanges and the splice assembly with a SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
   (2) Clean the areas:
     (a) Clean the areas where you removed the sealant with acetone (Material No.CP1039) or stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) or ardrox 552 (Material No.CP2559) or turco ind 79 (Material No.CP2560) or mag-chem tecksol (Material No.CP2566) or degreasol 99 R (Material No.CP2584) or mag-chem skysol (Material No.CP2656) or isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) .
   (3) Dry the areas with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
