Removal of the Upper Head Supply Hose


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: WEAR A FACE SHIELD WHICH IS RESISTANT TO HIGH PRESSURE JETS WHEN YOU WORK ON PRESSURIZED SYSTEMS.
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
  • FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
  • GET MEDICAL AID.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.

3. Job Set-up

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040)
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.

C. Make the thrust reverser unserviceable (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041)
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-31-49-020-085-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Upper Head Supply Hose
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) under the lower hydraulic actuator.
   (2) Disconnect the lower head supply hose from the actuator and let the hydraulic fluid drain into the container.
   (3) Reconnect the lower head supply hose to the actuator.
   (4) TORQUE the coupling nut to between 260 and 235 lbf.in (2.94 and 2.66 m.daN ) T.
NOTE: Apply a witness line of finish paint EA4 blue 5991 (Material No.CP2245) on the nut and connection after they are torqued.
   (5) Loosen the bottom bolt that attach the upper half clamp to the middle hydraulic line bracket. Remove the top bolt.
   (6) Remove the upper head shield from the middle hydraulic line bracket.
   (7) Disconnect the upper head supply hose from the swivel joint and the upper hydraulic actuator.
   (8) Remove the upper head supply hose from the forward frame.
   (9) Put COVER - PROTECTION on the hose ends.
