Removal of the Rigid Fuel Tube, Fuel Diverter and Return Valve (FDRV)


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET AIRCRAFT FUEL IN YOUR MOUTH OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU GET FUEL ON YOUR SKIN OR ON YOUR CLOTHES, FLUSH IT IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER. IF NECESSARY, GET MEDICAL HELP. AIRCRAFT FUEL IS POISONOUS.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
CAUTION: DO NOT PUT FUEL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK IN TO THE FUEL SYSTEM.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 73-11-47-941-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010)
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 73-11-47-020-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the rigid fuel tube, fuel diverter and return valve
   (1) Do the steps which follow :
CAUTION: HOLD THE UNION DURING THE DISCONNECT PROCEDURE TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE FLEXIBLE HOSE.
     (a) Loosen the bolts (2) and the nuts (4).
     (b) Loosen the fuel tubes (6) and (7) from the unions on the mounting bracket and drain the fuel into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
     (c) Loosen the nut (8) at the union on the mounting bracket.

     (d) Removal of the lockwire
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Cut, remove and discard the lockwire that attaches the tube assembly (16).
     (e) Loosen the tube assembly (16).

   (2) Remove the FDRV to the aircraft fuel tube
     (a) Remove the bolts (14) and disconnect the tube from the fuel diverter and return valve. Drain the fuel into the clean CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL)
     (b) Disconnection of the tube
CAUTION: HOLD THE UNION DURING THE DISCONNECT PROCEDURE TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE FLEXIBLE HOSE.
       1 Disconnect the tube (7) from the union on the mounting bracket and remove the tube from the engine.
     (c) Remove and discard the sealing ring (15) from the tube flange.

B. Put the applicable CAP - BLANKING on all the openings.
