4. Procedure
Subtask 72-58-00-320-050-A
A. Boro-blend the LPT blades stage 3 to 6 and the leading edge of stage 7
   (1) Do a borescope inspection as follows:
     (a) Turn the fan rotor clockwise (aft looking forward).
     (b) Identify the first blade you inspect to make sure to inspect all the blades.
     (c) Find and measure the area to repair.
1 If needed, do a fluorescent penetrant inspection (S4) of the blade to repair. Refer to Non-Destructive Test (NDT) manual part 08.
2 Write down the inspection results: size and location for each blade.
3 Make sure that the recorded inspection results are in the permitted blending limits. Refer to the Para. 3.C.
4 If the recorded inspection results are less than permitted limits, find the length of the blend necessary to keep the minimum blend radius. Refer to the Para. 3.C.
5 Calculate the minimum blend radius.
   (2) Do the boro-blending.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE BLEND TIP IS POINTED AWAY FROM THE OPERATOR IN THE 90-DEGREE POSITION. START THE DRIVE MOTOR AND MAKE SURE THAT THE TIP TURNS IN THE CLOCKWISE DIRECTION. IF IT TURNS COUNTERCLOCKWISE, EXAMINE THE DRIVE BELT FOR POSSIBLE TWISTED INSTALLATION.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT REPAIR MORE THAN TEN PER CENT OF THE LPT BLADES (14 BLADES) FOR EACH STAGE. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Install the grinding tool. Refer to the Para 3.D.
NOTE: You must use the shorter blending tool tips for the forward stages and the longer blending tool tips for the aft stages.
NOTE: Make sure that your tool turns in clockwise direction.
     (b) Put the grinding tip (1) close to the area to repair.
     (c) Align the blending tool tip with the area to be blended and check for correct movement across the total length of the area.
NOTE: You must not start the drive motor (5) at this time.
     (d) With the drive motor (5) off, apply pressure to the grind tool at the area to repair to practice the movement to use to blend the area to repair.
     (e) After sufficient practice with the grinding tip (1) on the blade leading edge surface, turn the motor using the on/off switch (3) and use the motor speed control (6) to increase the speed.
NOTE: If the grinding tip (1) does not turn freely, you must apply less pressure to the blade edge surface.
     (f) Blending of the area
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY TOO MUCH PRESSURE. THIS WILL PREVENT VIBRATION AND UNSCREWING OF THE GRINDING TOOL.
1 Blend the area without too much pressure. If necessary screw the grinding tool again.
     (g) Stop the drive motor (5).
     (h) Remove the grinding tool. Refer to the Para. 3.E.
   (3) Do a polishing of the blade.
     (a) Install the polishing tool. Refer to the Para. 3.D.
     (b) Put the ON/OFF switch (3) to ON to start the drive motor (5).
     (c) Polish the blended surface.
     (d) Stop the drive motor (5).
     (e) Remove the polishing tool. Refer to the Para. 3.E.
   (4) Do a borescope inspection of blended areas.
     (a) Use the borescope kit referenced in the table 802.
     (b) Make sure that all the areas to repair are blended.
Subtask 72-58-00-280-051-A
B. Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection.
   (1) Do the fluorescent penetrant inspection (S4) of the blade you repaired. Refer to NDT manual part 08.
     (a) No cracks permitted.
Subtask 72-58-00-230-050-A
C. Inspect the trailing edges of the LPT blades stage 7 (Alternative procedure available).
   (1) Turn the fan rotor clockwise (aft looking forward).
   (2) Identify the first blade you inspect to make sure to inspect all the blades.
   (3) Find and measure the area to repair.
     (a) If needed, do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of the blade to repair SPM 703213.
     (b) Write down the results of the inspection: size and location for each blade.
     (c) Make sure that the recorded inspection results are in the permitted blending limits.
     (d) If the recorded inspection results are less than permitted limits, find the length of the blend necessary to keep the minimum blend radius.
     (e) Calculate the minimum blend radius.
Subtask 72-58-00-230-051-A
D. Inspect the trailing edges of the LPT blades stage 7 (Alternative procedure).
   (1) Turn the fan rotor clockwise (aft looking forward).

   (3) Find and measure the area to repair.
     (a) If needed, do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of the blade to repair SPM 703223.
