A. Repair of the Intermediate Structure Rear Fairing
(1) If no screw is seized or self-rotating, go to the step (3).
(2) If any screws are seized or self-rotating, do as follows:
(b) Drill out the seized or self-rotating screws from the rear fairing. Use a MACHINE - DRILLING of diameter less than that of the screws.
(c) Examine whether the anchor nut is in the correct position. If the nut is loose or not in the correct position, remove it.
(d) Examine whether the anchor nuts have dropped off from the bleed duct and fall into the engine inside. If the nuts are missing, make sure they are removed from the engine inside.
(e) Remove the mask.
(3) Remove the dimple washer on the screw hole to be repaired.
(4) Remove all remaining adhesive on screw hole. Use Waterproof silicon carbide abrasive paper (Material No.V05-019) and waterproof silicon carbide (Material No.V05-020) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-32-86-200-010).
PRE SBE 70-0381
(5) Remove grease from the treatment area with a wipe andV01-124 Isopropyl Alcohol, Technical grade or Cleaning solvent (Material No.V01-338) .
(6) Apply chromate conversion coating (Material No.V01-275) to the repaired surfaces. Use a PAINTBRUSH to apply the conversion brushing solution until the surface becomes an iridescent gold to a light golden-brown color. The change in color takes approximately two to seven minutes.
(7) Flush the area with clean, cold water.
(8) Dry the area with a HOT AIR SOURCE or with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
END OF PRE SBE 70-0381
(9) Clean the repaired surface. Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) or a BRUSH - BRISTLED, SOFT made moist withV01-124 Isopropyl Alcohol, Technical grade .
(10) Apply a thin layer of primer (Material No.V08-014) with a soft brush to the screw hole. Air dry for 30 minutes minimum.
(a) Fill the hole with silicone compound from the nozzle of the compound tube.
(b) Press the silicone compound into the hole with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
(13) Identify the repair:
(a) A log entry is necessary when you have completed this repair. Write VRS1937 in the engine log book.
(b) At the next shop visit, the rear fairing and missing screw must be repaired.
5. Close-up(1) If no screw is seized or self-rotating, go to the step (3).
(2) If any screws are seized or self-rotating, do as follows:
CAUTION:
BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PARENT MATERIAL AND THE ATTACHMENT LUG OF THE BLEED DUCT.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET METAL PARTICLES AND BROKEN NUTS/SCREWS FALL INTO THE ENGINE. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
(a) Mask the opening port of bleed duct around the repaired area in order to prevent from the metal particles and broken nut/screw. (b) Drill out the seized or self-rotating screws from the rear fairing. Use a MACHINE - DRILLING of diameter less than that of the screws.
(c) Examine whether the anchor nut is in the correct position. If the nut is loose or not in the correct position, remove it.
