Replacement of the Stage 1 Fan Disk Rear Ramp - VRS1148
This task gives the procedure for the replacement of the stage 1 fan disk rear ramps.
This task includes two alternative procedures to repair the stage 1 fan disk rear ramps.

1. Reason for the JobThis task gives the procedure for the replacement of the stage 1 fan disk rear ramps.
This task includes two alternative procedures to repair the stage 1 fan disk rear ramps.
PRE SBE 70-0999 (assembly A) - adhesive application

Subtask 72-31-12-941-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
(4) Put the support equipment into position
(a) Put the MAT - WORK in position in the air intake cowl
4. Procedure(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:

NOTE: Make sure that the red warning pennants on the workmat can be seen external to the aircraft. Make sure that the workmat has sufficient dimensions to give full protection to the lower half of the air intake cowl.
Subtask 72-31-12-020-052-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Remove the stage 1 fan blade from the stage 1 fan disk assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 72-31-11-000-010).
Subtask 72-31-12-220-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL B. Examine and identify the damaged or peeled rear ramp.
Subtask 72-31-12-020-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL C. Remove the damaged or peeled rear ramp from the stage 1 fan disk without any damage to the parent material.
(1) Remove the damaged rear ramp from the fan disk using hand methods.
(2) Discard the damaged assembly A rear ramp and prepare the new assembly A rear ramp.
Subtask 72-31-12-110-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the damaged rear ramp from the fan disk using hand methods.
(2) Discard the damaged assembly A rear ramp and prepare the new assembly A rear ramp.
D. Clean of the disk and rear ramp bonding area.
(1) Cleaning of the disk bonding area
(b) Swab-degrease the disk bonding area. Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist withV01-031 Acetone, Technical grade or V01-124 Isopropyl Alcohol, Technical grade .
(2) Cleaning of the rear ramp bonding area
(b) Visually examine the assembly B rear ramps for damage:
2 The thickness of the rear ramp must be less than 0.438 in. (11.13 mm).
(c) Hand-abrade the assembly A and B rear ramp bonding area. Use scotch brite (Material No.V05-126) or garnet paper (Material No.V05-017) .
(d) Swab-degrease the rear ramp bonding areas. Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist withV01-031 Acetone, Technical grade or V01-124 Isopropyl Alcohol, Technical grade .
Subtask 72-31-12-350-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Cleaning of the disk bonding area
CAUTION:
TAKE EXTREME CARE NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FAN DISK.
(a) Remove the remaining unwanted adhesive and hand-abrade on the fan disk bonding area. Use scotch brite (Material No.V05-126) or garnet paper (Material No.V05-017) . (b) Swab-degrease the disk bonding area. Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with

CAUTION:
TAKE EXTREME CARE NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE REAR RAMP.
(a) Remove the remaining unwanted adhesive on the assembly B rear ramp bonding area. Use scotch brite (Material No.V05-126) or garnet paper (Material No.V05-017) . (b) Visually examine the assembly B rear ramps for damage:

TAKE EXTREME CARE NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE REAR RAMP.
1 Reject if cracked or sharp-cornered. 2 The thickness of the rear ramp must be less than 0.438 in. (11.13 mm).
(c) Hand-abrade the assembly A and B rear ramp bonding area. Use scotch brite (Material No.V05-126) or garnet paper (Material No.V05-017) .
(d) Swab-degrease the rear ramp bonding areas. Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with
E. Attach the rear ramp to the stage 1 fan disk, assembly A.
(2) Apply toughened acrylic adhesive with initiator (Material No.V08-114) to the disk and rear ramp bonding areas. Use SPATULA - NON METALLIC or TROWEL - SMALL.
(3) Attach the rear ramp to the fan disk and remove the masking tape from the rear ramp.
(4) Use finger pressure to hold the rear ramp in position for three minutes.
(5) Cure the adhesive for one hour at room temperature between 69 deg.F (21 deg.C) and 77 deg.F (25 deg.C).
Subtask 72-31-12-350-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
THERE MUST BE NO SMOKING OR EATING AT WORKPLACES WHERE THESE MATERIALS ARE USED. THEY SHOULD BE PREPARED AND USED IN WELL VENTILATED AREAS.
CAUTION:
MATING SURFACES OF COMPONENT MUST BE SCRUPULOUSLY CLEAN AND CONTACT SURFACES MUST NOT BE TOUCHED BY HAND OR OTHERWISE CONTAMINATED.
BONDING MUST BE CARRIED OUT IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING SURFACE PREPARATION.
(1) Apply adhesive tape paper heat resistant masking tape (Material No.V02-019) to the rear ramp. (2) Apply toughened acrylic adhesive with initiator (Material No.V08-114) to the disk and rear ramp bonding areas. Use SPATULA - NON METALLIC or TROWEL - SMALL.
(3) Attach the rear ramp to the fan disk and remove the masking tape from the rear ramp.
(4) Use finger pressure to hold the rear ramp in position for three minutes.
(5) Cure the adhesive for one hour at room temperature between 69 deg.F (21 deg.C) and 77 deg.F (25 deg.C).
F. Attach the rear ramp to the stage 1 fan disk, assembly B.
(1) Prepare the rear ramp.
V02-271 adhesive tape (double sided) on the bonding surface. Air bubbles, creases or wrinkles are not permitted.
(b) Adjust the adhesive tape to align with the specified dimensions.
(2) Remove the backing paper from the rear ramp.
(3) Install the rear ramp on the disk.
(4) Use finger pressure to hold the rear ramp in position for one minute.
Subtask 72-31-12-220-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Prepare the rear ramp.
NOTE: If you use a new rear ramp, this step is not necessary.
(a) Apply (b) Adjust the adhesive tape to align with the specified dimensions.
(2) Remove the backing paper from the rear ramp.
(3) Install the rear ramp on the disk.
(4) Use finger pressure to hold the rear ramp in position for one minute.
NOTE: Once the ramp is in position, it cannot be moved and its position cannot be adjusted.
(5) Lightly twist the rear ramp to ensure full adhesion to the disk. G. Visually and dimensionally examine the bonded rear ramp.
