A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
   (3) Install a MAT - PROTECTIVE in the lower half of the inlet cowl.
4. Procedure
WARNING: WHEN YOU DO WORK WITH COMPOSITE MATERIALS, USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT AND A LOCAL MECHANICAL EXHAUST VENTILATION OR AN APPROVED RESPIRATOR. YOU MUST NOT BREATHE THE PARTICLES FROM THE REPAIR OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS OR LET THE PARTICLES TOUCH YOU. THE PARTICLES CAN CAUSE INJURY OR IRRITATION TO YOU, AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

A.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE DIAMETER OF THE REPAIRED AREA IS NOT MORE THAN 2.0 IN. (50.8 MM). IF YOU MUST REPAIR MORE THAN ONE AREA, MAKE SURE THAT:
  • THE TOTAL CUMULATED REPAIRED SURFACE IS NOT MORE THAN 15.0 IN.2 (9678 MM2), AND
  • THE DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO REPAIR AREAS IS MORE THAN 5 TIMES THE LENGTH OF THE LONGEST REPAIRED DIAMETER.
   (1) Cut around the indication in a circular shape using a SAW - HOLE. Cut 0.25 in. (6.35 mm) larger that the indication but do not exceed 2.00 in. (50.80 mm). A change of sound occurs during the hole-sawing when the carbon skin layer is cut and you reach the honeycomb material. Multiple repairs are permitted if the cumulated repaired surface is not more than 15.70 in.2 (101.29 cm2) and the distance between two repaired areas is more than 5 times the length of the longest repaired diameter.
   (2) Remove all the indications of the front sheet carbon skin layers and/or honeycomb such as loose particles, cracks and delamination. You get better results when you remove all of the honeycomb material from the diameter you repair.
   (3) Hand blend the area to be filled to get a clean surface for material filling and bonding SPM 704111.

B. Clean with an AIR SOURCE FILTERED, DRY and de-oiled. Use also an isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) SPM 702111.

C. Installation of a new insert - alternative method. Fill with abradable material as follows:
CAUTION: WEAR GLOVES THAT HAVE NO TALC OR SILICONE TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF ABRADABLE COMPOUND.
   (1) Prepare the abradable material.
     (a) Prepare the CPNCL2923S W-3524 B-A (BLACK) / EC 3524 B-A (BLACK) as follows:
  • Base Sotch-WeldTM EC-3524 part B black: 100 parts by weight
  • Accelerator Sotch-WeldTM EC-3524 part A black: 94 parts by weight
NOTE: If necessary, you can use CPNCL2364S W-3524 B-A (BLUE) / EC 3524 B-A (BLUE) with the same proportions.
     (b) Stir the above mixture manually until you get a black homogenous material. Mix both parts slowly to prevent air bubbles in the mixture.
     (c) If necessary, heat the above mixture to 77 deg.F (25.00 deg.C) to make the application of product to the part easier. The most appropriate work temperature is between 68 deg.F (20.00 deg.C) and 77 deg.F (25.00 deg.C).
   (2) Fill-up the area to repair with the abradable material. See the sheet 4 of the figure:
NOTE: If the blue product is used, the final cosmetic result of the repaired area will be different from the original.
     (a) If necessary, heat the area that you will repair or the working environment between 68 deg.F (20 deg.C) and 77 deg.F (25 deg.C) to make the application of product to the part easier.
     (b) Make sure that the application surface is clean and not disbonded.
     (c) Apply a very thin layer of abradable material on the area to repair and apply sufficient pressure with your thumb to get better results.
     (d) Fill the remaining thickness with abradable material. Fill with a 10 percent increase of thickness compared to the flush thickness.
Subtask 72-23-01-370-050-A
D. Do the Polymerization - Alternative Procedure.
   (1) Polymerize at room temperature during 24 hours. Room temperature must be between 59 deg.F (15.00 deg.C) and 77 deg.F (25.00 deg.C). Use 77 deg.F (25.00 deg.C) to obtain better results.
Subtask 72-23-01-370-051-A
E. Do the Polymerization - Alternative Procedure.
   (1) Polymerize at between 122 deg.F (50.00 deg.C) and 140 deg.F (60.00 deg.C) during five hours.
Subtask 72-23-01-370-052-A
F. Do the polymerization - Alternative Procedure.
   (1) Polymerize at between 158 deg.F (70.00 deg.C) and 194 deg.F (90.00 deg.C) during two hours.
Subtask 72-23-01-280-051-A
G. Do a hardness check.
   (1) Use TESTER - HARDNESS (MICRODUR TYPE OR EQUIVALENT) to check to hardness.
     (a) The hardness must be between 40 and 60 Shore D.

I. Do an inspection of the repaired area.
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the liner for bubbles or missed areas.
     (a) Air bubbles are not permitted. Do the repair again.
     (b) Lack of abradable is not permitted. Do the repair again.
   (2) Do a check of the abradable material bonding with a MALLET - WOODEN. A dull sound tells that the abradable material is not correctly bonded. If so, do the repair again.
5. Close-up
Subtask 72-23-01-410-052-A
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
