3. Job Set-up
Subtask 72-21-20-941-059-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
   (3) Install the 98N7160H003-000 INLET PROTECTIVE RUG.

4. Procedure

B. Prepare the paint and primer as necessary as follows:
   (1) Mix LBYH 203 - Supplier Mader finish paint in the proportions given below:
     (a) 3.53 oz (100.07 g) of base of LBYH 203 - Supplier Mader,
     (b) 0.35 oz (9.92 g) of hardening agent of LBYH 200 - Supplier Mader,
     (c) Thinner DL 1511 or WATER - DEIONIZED: max five percent by weight of the total mixture.
NOTE: The pot life of the finish paint is two hours maximum.
   (2) Mix S1238 Primer PCEH 100 - Supplier Mader in the proportions given below:
     (a) 3.53 oz (100.07 g) of base of S1238 Primer PCEH 100 - Supplier Mader.
     (b) 3.88 oz (110.00 g) of hardening agent of S1238 Primer PCEH 100 - Supplier Mader.
     (c) Thinner DL 1511 or WATER - DEIONIZED: max ten percent by weight of the total mixture.
NOTE: The pot life of the primer paint is three hours maximum.

C. General Information
   (1) The following equipment is required for the application of this coating:
     (a) The paint area shall be enclosed and equipped with a ventilation system to prevent any contamination likely to adversely affect the final characteristics of the film.
     (b) The paint booth shall be equipped with a temperature and hygrometry recording system and shall enable the following conditions to be respected during paint application:
  • Temperature: 15 deg.C (59 deg.F) to 35 deg.C (95 deg.F)
  • Hygrometry: maximum of 80 percent
  • The paint station air shall be filtered, dry and oil-free.
     (c) Protective safety masks.
     (d) Heating facilities (e.g. ovens, stoves, infrared equipment, etc.) capable of complying with the curing instructions set down in Para. 4.

D. Clean the Fan Blade
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GLOVES TO PREVENT INJURY FROM SHARP EDGES AND ROUGH SURFACES.
   (1) If necessary, clean the fan blade with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) moistened with isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) .
NOTE: The tip and the platform wear strips must not be painted.

E. Condition for Repair
   (1) If the total surface of the paint to repair areas is less than 400 mm2 (0.62 in.2) and if the primer is not visible, do the repair with the instructions given in Para. 4.F.
   (2) If the areas to repair do not agree with the criteria above and if there is remaining paint around the areas to repair, do the repair with the instructions given in Para. 4.G.

F. Repair the area as follows:
WARNING: DO NOT BREATHE THE PARTICLES WHEN YOU DO THE SANDING. USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE LOCAL MECHANICAL EXHAUST VENTILATION OR AN APPROVED RESPIRATOR. THE PARTICLES CAN CAUSE INJURY OR IRRITATION TO YOU.
CAUTION: DO NOT SAND INTO THE COMPOSITE MATERIAL. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FAN BLADE.
CAUTION: DO NOT SAND INTO THE METALLIC LEADING EDGE ADHESIVE. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FAN BLADE.
CAUTION: DURING THE SANDING OF THE PAINT, BE CAREFUL NOT TO:
  • REMOVE THE PARENT MATERIAL FROM THE METAL LEADING EDGE
  • CHANGE THE ROUGHNESS OF THE METAL LEADING-EDGE SURFACE
  • INCREASE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE PART TO MORE THAN 248 DEG F (120 DEG C).
  • USE INCORRECT TREATMENT THAT CAN CHANGE THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE METAL LEADING EDGE.
IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE FAN BLADE WILL OCCUR.
   (1) Lightly sand the finish paint on the area to repair with the ABRASIVE PAPER - 240 GRIT (ANSI B74.18). You must not see the primer.
   (2) Clean the area to repair with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) moistened with isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) .
   (3) Prepare the finish paint with the instructions given in Para. 4.B.
   (4) Paint the area to repair with the PAINTBRUSH.
   (5) Dry the finish paint for 30 minutes minimum at ambient temperature.
   (6) Cure to between 167 deg.F (75.00 deg.C) and 185 deg.F (85.00 deg.C) during 30 minutes minimum.
   (7) Do a visual examination:
     (a) The color and appearance of the repaired area must be homogenous, mat.
     (b) The repaired area must be smooth and free of any run, pinhole, bump, crater or blister and without inclusions of foreign object.
     (c) The interface between the repaired area and the remaining paint must be smooth.

G. Repair the area as follows:
   (1) Mask with Scotch 501E - Supplier 3M around the area to repair.
WARNING: DO NOT BREATHE THE PARTICLES WHEN YOU DO THE SANDING. USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE LOCAL MECHANICAL EXHAUST VENTILATION OR AN APPROVED RESPIRATOR. THE PARTICLES CAN CAUSE INJURY OR IRRITATION TO YOU.
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE COMPOSITE MATERIAL. THIS WILL DAMAGE THE FAN BLADE.
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE METAL LEADING-EDGE ADHESIVE. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FAN BLADE.
CAUTION: DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE PAINT, BE CAREFUL NOT TO:
  • REMOVE THE PARENT MATERIAL FROM THE METAL LEADING EDGE
  • CHANGE THE ROUGHNESS OF THE METAL LEADING-EDGE SURFACE
  • INCREASE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE PART TO MORE THAN 248 DEG F (120 DEG C).
  • USE INCORRECT TREATMENT THAT CAN CHANGE THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE METAL LEADING EDGE.
IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE FAN BLADE WILL OCCUR.
   (2) Remove the paint and primer to repair as follows:
     (a) Use the ABRASIVE PAPER - 240 GRIT (ANSI B74.18) and Scotch Brite Maroon to remove only the finish paint and primer as follows:
       1 A veil of primer can remain.
       2 The sanding dust must not be black. Make sure not to sand the adhesive of the metal leading edge.
       3 Do not remove parent material on the metal leading edge.
       4 Do not remove composite material or polyurethane film.
       5 Do not heat the part over 248 deg.F (120 deg.C).
       6 Do not change the metal leading edge surface roughness.
       7 Do not modify the mechanical properties of the metal leading edge with an incorrect treatment.
     (b) Remove the masking.
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS
  • DO NOT LET THE PRESSURE BE MORE THAN 30 PSIG (200 KPA).
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
     (c) Vacuum the sanded area with the AIR SOURCE FILTERED, DRY and oil free.
     (d) Clean the area to repair with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) moistened with isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) .
     (e) Do a visual examination:
       1 Non-through scratches on polyurethane film are permitted.
       2 Disbonding, foreign objects, step, lack of material or cut on polyurethane film are not permitted.
       3 Removal of composite material is not permitted.
   (3) Make sure that the time between the application of the primer and the finish paint is not more than 72 hours.
   (4) Apply the primer as follows:
     (a) Prepare the S1238 Primer PCEH 100 - Supplier Mader with the instructions given in Para 4.B.
     (b) Paint the area with the GUN - AIR SPRAY, STANDARD PAINT.
       1 The thickness of the primer in area A must be 0.010 mm (0.0004 in.) minimum and 0.030 mm (0.0012 in.) maximum.
       2 The thickness of the primer must decrease up to 0 mm (0 in.) in the transition paint area.
       3 The primer must be under all the finishing paint.
     (c) Dry the primer for 30 min minimum at ambient temperature.
   (5) Cure to between 167 deg.F (75.00 deg.C) and 185 deg.F (85.00 deg.C) during one hour minimum.
   (6) Apply the finish paint as follows:
     (a) Prepare the finish paint with the instructions given in Para 4.B.
     (b) Paint the area with the GUN - AIR SPRAY, STANDARD PAINT.
       1 The thickness of the finishing paint in area A must be not less than 0.045 mm (0.0018 in.).
       2 The thickness of the finish paint must decrease up to 0 mm (0 in.) in the transition paint area.
       3 The overspray areas must not be larger than dimension C and the surface must be rough and clean in the overspray area before paint overspray. Refer to Para. 4.A.
NOTE: Paint overspray on adjacent areas is permitted.
     (c) Dry the finish paint for 30 minutes minimum at ambient temperature.
   (7) Cure to between 167 deg.F (75.00 deg.C) and 185 deg.F (85.00 deg.C) during 30 minutes minimum.
   (8) Do a visual examination:
     (a) The primer must be under all the finishing paint.
     (b) The color and appearance of the repaired area must be homogenous, mat.
     (c) The repaired area must be smooth and free of any run, pinhole, bump, crater or blister and without inclusions of foreign object.
     (d) The interface between the repaired area and the remaining paint must be smooth.
     (e) Paint step are not permitted unless specified differently.
5. Close-up
Subtask 72-21-20-942-054-A
A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Remove the 98N7160H003-000 INLET PROTECTIVE RUG.
   (2) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
