FIN: 1000EM2 ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
1. Reason for the Job
This section gives information on the non-destructive testing methods which are used for the inspection of the fan and booster assembly.
The inspection of the fan and booster assembly is possible during normal line maintenance. You can do it in different ways, depending on the location of the parts. The different modes of inspection and the parts to be inspected are as follows:
Visual inspection/check of the spinner, fan blades, fan disk and, through the fan blades, the stage 1 booster vanes.
Borescope inspection of booster blades (fully) and vanes (partially).
NOTE: The borescope procedure is given in the CFM56 Non-Destructive Test Manual (NDTM).
The borescope is used to do visual inspections and to take photographs of selected areas of the booster.
The booster areas that you can view are:
The leading and trailing edges of the stage 2 booster blades
The leading and trailing edges of the stages 3 and 4 booster blades.
NOTE: Stages 2, 3 and 4 apply to the booster rotor stages only.
