Removal of the Fan Case Drain Tubes


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-73-49-941-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Open the fan cowl doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040)
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

4. Procedure
Subtask 71-73-49-020-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Fuel Return Valve Drain Tube
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 1 L (1/4 USGAL) below the fuel return valve drain tube (30) to catch any fuel remaining in the tube.
   (2) Disconnect the drain tube (30) from the upper junction drain tube (25) and let the fluid drain into the container.
   (3) Remove the bolt (10) and the clamp (5) that attach the drain tube (30) to the fan case bracket.
   (4) Disconnect the drain tube (30) from the fuel return valve.
   (5) Remove the drain tube (30) from the engine.
   (6) Put COVER - PROTECTION on the fuel return valve and the ends of the drain tubes (25) and (30).
   (7) Remove the container from below the engine.

B. Removal of the Upper Junction Drain Tube
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 1 L (1/4 USGAL) below the upper junction drain tube (25) to catch any fuel remaining in the tubes.
   (2) Disconnect the drain tube (25) from the lower junction drain tube (20) and let the fluid drain into the container.
   (3) Remove the bolt (10) and the clamp (5) that attach the drain tube (25) to the fan case channel.
   (4) Remove the bolts (10), the nut (15) and the clamps (5) that attach the drain tube (25) to the fan case brackets.
   (5) Disconnect the drain tube (25) from the fuel return valve drain tube (30).
   (6) Remove the drain tube (25) from the engine.
   (7) Put COVER - PROTECTION on the ends of the drain tubes (20), (25) and (30).
   (8) Remove the container from below the engine.

C. Removal of the Lower Junction Drain Tube
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 1 L (1/4 USGAL) below the lower junction drain tube (20) to catch any fuel remaining in the tubes.
   (2) Disconnect the drain tube (20) from the drain manifold module and let the fluid drain into the container.
   (3) Disconnect the drain tube (20) from the upper junction drain tube (25).
   (4) Remove the bolt (10), the nut (15) and the clamp (5) that attach the drain tube (20) to the fan case bracket.
   (5) Remove the bolt (10), the nut (15) and the clamp (5) that attach the drain tube (25) to the clamp on the oil tank drain tube.
   (6) Remove the drain tube (20) from the engine.
   (7) Put COVER - PROTECTION on the drain manifold module and the ends of the drain tubes (20) and (25).
   (8) Remove the container from below the engine.
