Removal of the Aft Mount Assembly


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
CAUTION: THIS PART IS A REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENT (RSC), WHICH CAN BE MOVED BETWEEN AIRCRAFT. THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. THE OPERATOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPECIFIC TRACKING AND CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS OF REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. INCORRECT MAINTENANCE OF THESE COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE A RISK FOR THE FLIGHT SAFETY.

A. Preparation before Removal
   (1) Install the 636-1000-30GSE ENGINE MOUNT HOISTING DEVICE AFTPWA211466 FIXTURE, LIFT (14) on the aft mount assembly (13).
     (a) Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.

B. Removal of the Aft Mount Assembly
WARNING: THE AFT ENGINE MOUNT WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 28 KG (61.7 LB). MAKE SURE YOU SAFELY SUPPORT THE AFT ENGINE MOUNT AND KEEP IT AWAY FROM OTHER ENGINE COMPONENTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY TO MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: HOLD THE ENGINE MOUNT TO PREVENT HARD CONTACT WITH THE ENGINE DURING THE STEPS THAT FOLLOW. BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE (SCRATCHES) TO THE ENGINE CASE.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE GREASE OR OIL ON ANY PARTS OF THESE ASSEMBLIES. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Remove the waiting fail-safe pin:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (9).
     (b) Remove the nut (10), the bolt (7) and the two washers (8) and (11).
     (c) Discard the nut (10) and the two washers (8) and (11).
     (d) Remove the pin (12).
     (e) Do a check of the condition of the pin (12):
  • If you find dents, gouges, nicks or scratches on the surface of the pin (12), discard the pin (12).
  • If you find discoloration, keep the pin (12) for the installation.
   (2) Remove the two-point shackle pin:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (3).
     (b) Remove the nut (4), the bolt (1) and the two washers (2) and (5).
     (c) Discard the nut (4) and the two washers (2) and (5).
     (d) Remove the pin (6) with your hand.
     (e) Do a check of the condition of the pin (6):
  • If you find dents, gouges, nicks or scratches on the surface of the pin (6), discard the pin (6).
  • If you find discoloration, keep the pin (6) for the installation.
     (f) If you cannot remove the pin (6) with your hand, use the 636-1000-33GSE REAR MOUNT PIN EXTRACTOR and discard the pin (6).
   (3) Remove the three-point shackle pin:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (3).
     (b) Remove the nut (4), the bolt (1) and the two washers (2) and (5).
     (c) Discard the nut (4) and the two washers (2) and (5).
     (d) Remove the pin (6) with your hand.
     (e) Do a check of the condition of the pin (6):
  • If you find dents, gouges, nicks or scratches on the surface of the pin (6), discard the pin (6).
  • If you find discoloration, keep the pin (6) for the installation.
     (f) If you cannot remove the pin (6) with your hand, use the 636-1000-33GSE REAR MOUNT PIN EXTRACTOR and discard the pin (6).
   (4) Remove the aft mount assembly from the engine assembly. Safely support the aft mount assembly and keep it away from the other engine components.
