3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-13-19-869-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. General
   (1) This task gives the procedure to seal the right fan cowl strake fastener holes, 438AR on engine 1.
NOTE: The procedure to seal the left fan cowl strake fastener holes, 447AL on the engine 2 is the same as for engine 1. Only one procedure is given.
NOTE: If a fan cowl strake configuration to be installed is different from the configuration removed, refer to Service Bulletin (SB) V2500-NAC-71-0258.
Subtask 71-13-19-941-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

C. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-13-19-110-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Remove any used sealant from the fan cowl strake fastener holes:
   (1) Remove used sealant from the strake holes on the fan cowl door.
   (2) Use a clean lint free cloth (Material No.V02-099) made moist with V01-076Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Technical grade and clean the inside of the strake fastener holes.

B. Seal the strake fastener holes as follows:

NOTE: If the fan cowl strake configuration to be installed is different from the configuration removed, use SB V2500-NAC-71-0258 to install the strakes in the new configuration.
   (1) Install masking tape (Material No.V02-178) on the strake fastener holes on the outside of the fan cowl door.
   (2) Cleaning of the inside surface of the fan cowl door
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
     (a) Use a clean lint free cloth (Material No.V02-099) made moist with V01-076Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Technical grade and clean the inside surface of the fan cowl door.
   (3) Filling of the strake fastener holes
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
     (a) Mix the sealant (Material No.V08-141) in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
     (b) Fill a syringe (Material No.V02-162) with the mixed sealant (Material No.V08-141) .
     (c) Use the syringe (Material No.V02-162) and fill the strake fastener holes with the mixed sealing compound. Make sure that the level of the sealant (Material No.V08-141) is 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) below the inside surface of the fan cowl door.
     (d) Cure the sealant (Material No.V08-141) in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
   (4) Remove the masking tape (Material No.V02-178) from the outside surface of the fan cowl door.

   (5) Cleaning of the outside surface of the fan cowl door
NOTE: If the fan cowl strake configuration to be installed is different from the configuration removed, use SB V2500-NAC-71-0258 to install the strakes in the new configuration.
     (a) Use a clean lint free cloth (Material No.V02-099) made moist with V01-076Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Technical grade and clean the inside surface of the fan cowl door.
   (6) Filling of the strake fastener holes
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
     (a) Mix the sealant (Material No.V08-141) in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
     (b) Fill a syringe (Material No.V02-162) with the mixed sealant (Material No.V08-141) .
     (c) Apply a sufficient quantity of the mixed sealant around the filler plug (1). Install each filler plug (1) from the outside surface. Make sure that the plugs are flush with the outside surface of the fan cowl door.
     (d) Cure the sealant (Material No.V08-141) in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

   (7) Make the rework area on the outside of the fan cowl door smooth.
WARNING: DO NOT BREATHE THE DUST OR GET IT ON YOUR SKIN. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GOGGLES AND A FACE MASK.
CAUTION: DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE OUTSIDE SURFACE OF THE FAN COWL DOOR. CAREFULLY REMOVE THE SEALING COMPOUND FROM THE REPAIR AREA. DO NOT USE A LIQUID WITH THE ABRASIVE PAPER.
     (a) Use Waterproof silicon carbide abrasive paper (Material No.V05-021) to make the rework area on the outside of the fan cowl door smooth.
   (8) Repair the surface protective layer. Refer to the Standard Practices/Processes Manual (SPP-V2500-1IA), Chapter 70-38-07.

C. Fan Cowl Door Part Number Change
NOTE: If the fan cowl strake configuration installed is different from the configuration removed, the fan cowl door part number must be changed. Refer to SB V2500-NAC-71-0258.
   (1) If necessary, amend the part number on the fan cowl door, refer to SB V2500-NAC-71-0258.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-010):

   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
