Cleaning of the Fan Cowl Door Locking Latch No. 1


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-13-13-941-077-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-13-13-140-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of Solid or Unwanted Materials from the Lock
NOTE: These steps can be done in any sequence and repeated until the key and the lock operate correctly.
   (1) Use a BRUSH - NYLON on the key opening to loosen debris.
   (2) Blow compressed air into the key opening.
NOTE: Do not cover the key opening on the latch to allow the debris to fall out.
   (3) Apply pressurized water into the key opening as needed to remove any debris.
NOTE: Do not cover the key opening on the latch to allow the debris to fall out.
   (4) Put cotton swabs soaked with isopropyl alcohol (Material No.CP1041) or white spirit (Material No.CP2010) through the key opening to help release unwanted debris.
   (5) Spray a large amount of applicable WD-40 (Material No.CP2554) through the key opening into the lock and around the mechanism.

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
