Removal of the Fan-Cowl Door Latch


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the Job
NOTE: SBN71-0331 (equivalent to Airbus service bulletin SB 71-1069) introduces a lockable latch in the forward position (latch No. 1) that must be opened and closed and locked with a key and flag assembly. The key and flag assembly are stowed in the cockpit and must not be used if there is damage to the key or flag.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
   (1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

4. Procedure

A. Removal of the Latches from the Latch Housing

PRE SBN71-0256

   (1) Remove and discard the split pins (1).
   (2) Remove the collars (2) and the pins (3) that attach the anti-swivel plates (4) and the latches (5) to the latch housings (6).
   (3) Remove the anti-swivel plates (4) and the latches (5) from the fan cowl.

POST SBN71-0256

   (4) Remove and discard the split pins (1).
   (5) Remove the collars (2) and the pins (3) that attach the anti-swivel plates (7) and the latches 1 and 2 (5) to the latch housings (6).
   (6) Remove the collars (2) and the pins (3) that attach the anti-swivel plates (4) and the latches 3 and 4 (5) to the latch housings (6).
   (7) Remove the anti-swivel plates (4) and (7) and the latches (5) from the fan cowl.

   (8) Remove and discard the split pins (1).
   (9) Remove the collar (2) and the pin (3) that attach the anti-swivel plate (8) and the lockable latch No. 1 (5) to the latch housing (6).
   (10) Remove the collar (2) and the pin (3) that attach the anti-swivel plate (7) and the latch No. 2 (5) to the latch housing (6).
   (11) Remove the collars (2) and the pins (3) that attach the anti-swivel plates (4) and the latches No. 3 & 4 (5) to the latch housings (6).
   (12) Remove the anti-swivel plates (4), (7) and (8) and the latches (5) from the fan cowl.
