Removal of the Fan Cowl Strakes

A. Safety Precautions
(1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position.
4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

(2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position.
CAUTION:
WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 71-13-07-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Removal of the Strake (1) from the Left Fan Cowl Door
(1) Remove the sealant from the washers (5) and nuts (6) on the inboard side of the fan cowl door with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent.
(2) Remove the sealant on the bolts (2) and (4) and the pins (3) on the strake (1) with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent.
(3) Remove the sealant from around the strake (1) on the fan cowl door with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent. Do not scratch the fan cowl door.
(4) Remove the two nuts (6), washers (5) and pins (3) that attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door.
(5) Remove the 24 bolts (2) and (4) that attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door.
(6) Remove the strake (1) from the left fan cowl door. Remove the shims and adhesive from under the strake (1), if necessary.
Subtask 71-13-07-020-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the sealant from the washers (5) and nuts (6) on the inboard side of the fan cowl door with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent.
(2) Remove the sealant on the bolts (2) and (4) and the pins (3) on the strake (1) with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent.
(3) Remove the sealant from around the strake (1) on the fan cowl door with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent. Do not scratch the fan cowl door.
(4) Remove the two nuts (6), washers (5) and pins (3) that attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door.
(5) Remove the 24 bolts (2) and (4) that attach the strake (1) to the left fan cowl door.
(6) Remove the strake (1) from the left fan cowl door. Remove the shims and adhesive from under the strake (1), if necessary.
B. Removal of the Strake (7) from the Right Fan Cowl Door
(1) Remove the sealant from the washers (5) and nuts (6) on the inboard side of the fan cowl door with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent.
(2) Remove the sealant from the bolts (2) and (4) and the pins (3) on the strake (7) with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent.
(3) Remove the sealant from around the strake (7) on the fan cowl door with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent. Do not scratch the fan cowl door.
(4) Remove the two nuts (6), washers (5) and pins (3) that attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door.
(5) Remove the 24 bolts (2) and (4) that attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door.
(6) Remove the strake (7) from the right fan cowl door. Remove the shims and adhesive from under the strake (7), if necessary.
(1) Remove the sealant from the washers (5) and nuts (6) on the inboard side of the fan cowl door with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent.
(2) Remove the sealant from the bolts (2) and (4) and the pins (3) on the strake (7) with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent.
(3) Remove the sealant from around the strake (7) on the fan cowl door with a SPATULA - PLASTIC or equivalent. Do not scratch the fan cowl door.
(4) Remove the two nuts (6), washers (5) and pins (3) that attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door.
(5) Remove the 24 bolts (2) and (4) that attach the strake (7) to the right fan cowl door.
(6) Remove the strake (7) from the right fan cowl door. Remove the shims and adhesive from under the strake (7), if necessary.
