1. Reason for the Job
This procedure gives instructions to preserve the air intake cowl lipskin for parking or storage. Refer to ATA Chapters 10 and 71 for more information before you do this procedure.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-11-11-941-070-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU, put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine 1(2).
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead panel, on maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position:
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
At zone 431.
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
At zone 441.
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-11-11-620-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE PROTECTIVE COATING DRY ON THE MASKING TAPE. IF THE PROTECTIVE COATING DRIES ON THE MASKING TAPE, DAMAGE TO THE PROTECTIVE COATING CAN OCCUR WHEN YOU REMOVE THE MASKING TAPE
A. Preservation of the Air Intake Cowl Lipskin for Storage
NOTE: You can use this preservation coating for a maximum of six months.
   (1) Make sure that you removed and installed all the COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine and adjacent components.
   (2) Make sure that you wipe clean all parts and tools as necessary to remove unwanted debris and prevent damage to the engine and adjacent components.
   (3) Clean the surface of the air intake cowl lipskin:
     (a) Clean the surface of the air intake cowl lipskin with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and the V01-031acetone, technical grade.
     (b) Remove all the dust, dirt, unwanted material, oil, grease and moisture.
     (c) Remove the V01-031acetone, technical grade with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before the solvent dries.
     (d) Make sure that the surface of the air intake cowl lipskin is clean, dry and water-break-free.
   (4) Apply a mask on the air intake cowl lipskin:
     (a) Apply the protective tape (Material No.VU1-0119) or the riveter tape (Material No.VU1-0120) on the fasteners along the inner surface of the lipskin to help prevent the coating removal of the heads.
     (b) Apply the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) to the edge of the inner surface of the lipskin and the sealant between the lipskin and the inner barrel.
       1 Make sure that the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) fully covers the protective tape (Material No.VU1-0119) or the riveter tape (Material No.VU1-0120) .
     (c) Apply the protective tape (Material No.VU1-0119) or the riveter tape (Material No.VU1-0120) on the hoist point fasteners to help prevent coating removal of the fastener heads.
     (d) Apply the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) on the edge of the outer surface of the lipskin and the sealant between the lipskin and the outer barrel.
     (e) Make sure that the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) covers all the fasteners on the lipskin:
       1 Make sure that the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) fully covers the protective tape (Material No.VU1-0119) or the riveter tape (Material No.VU1-0120) on the hoist point fasteners.
     (f) Apply the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) to the exhaust vent near the holes at the bottom of the lipskin.
     (g) Apply three layers of the V02-178 masking tape to the inner and outer barrel assemblies to provide protection from overspray.
       1 Apply the second and the third layers with a small overlap of the layer before it.
     (h) Install the COVER - PROTECTION on the fan blades and the adjacent components to provide protection from overspray.
   (5) Apply the protective coating on the air intake cowl lipskin:
     (a) Before you apply the basecoat and the topcoat, refer to the instructions of the manufacturer for application and recommended spray equipment.
     (b) Spray a 0.004 in. (0.102 mm) layer of the VU4-0051basecoat, peelable preservation on the lipskin with the spray equipment (Material No.VU10-0060) .
       1 Spray the VU4-0051basecoat, peelable preservation approximately 6 in. (152 mm) to 8 in. (203 mm) from the surface, in a forward to aft direction.
       2 Spray the outer edge of the lipskin first, then the inner edge.
     (c) Remove the top layer of the V02-178 masking tape before the VU4-0051basecoat, peelable preservation dries.
     (d) Let the layer dry for one hour.
     (e) Apply a second layer of the VU4-0051basecoat, peelable preservation to get a total thickness of 0.008 in. (0.2 mm).
     (f) Remove the second layer of the V02-178 masking tape before the VU4-0051basecoat, peelable preservation dries.
     (g) Let the base coat dry until it loses its gloss.
     (h) Apply a 0.002 in. (0.1 mm) layer of the VU4-0050topcoat, water-borne preservation with the spray equipment (Material No.VU10-0060) .
     (i) Remove the V02-178 masking tape and the protective covers that you used for overspray protection.
     (j) Do not remove the tape on the exhaust holes, inner surface of the lipskin, outer surface of the lipskin or the hoist point fasteners.
     (k) Let the protective coating fully cure. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
   (6) Examine the protective coating. Make sure that the protective coating is smooth, uniform and continuous.
   (7) Continue with the preservation of the engine, nacelle and aircraft as necessary. Refer to ATA Chapters 10 and 71.
   (8) Examine the protective coating every 24 hours for the first seven days.
     (a) Make sure that the humidity is stable and there is no excessive moisture on the lipskin.
   (9) After the first seven days, refer to ATA Chapters 10 and 71 for more inspection intervals.
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
