(2) Make sure that you wipe clean all parts and tools as necessary to remove unwanted debris and prevent damage to the engine and adjacent components.
(3) Clean the surface of the air intake cowl lipskin:
(a) Clean the surface of the air intake cowl lipskin with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and theV01-031 acetone, technical grade .
(b) Remove all the dust, dirt, unwanted material, oil, grease and moisture.
(c) Remove theV01-031 acetone, technical grade with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before the solvent dries.
(d) Make sure that the surface of the air intake cowl lipskin is clean, dry and water-break-free.
(4) Apply a mask on the air intake cowl lipskin:
(a) Apply the protective tape (Material No.VU1-0119) or the riveter tape (Material No.VU1-0120) on the fasteners along the inner surface of the lipskin to help prevent the coating removal of the heads.
(b) Apply the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) to the edge of the inner surface of the lipskin and the sealant between the lipskin and the inner barrel.
1 Make sure that the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) fully covers the protective tape (Material No.VU1-0119) or the riveter tape (Material No.VU1-0120) .
(c) Apply the protective tape (Material No.VU1-0119) or the riveter tape (Material No.VU1-0120) on the hoist point fasteners to help prevent coating removal of the fastener heads.
(d) Apply the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) on the edge of the outer surface of the lipskin and the sealant between the lipskin and the outer barrel.
(e) Make sure that the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) covers all the fasteners on the lipskin:
1 Make sure that the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) fully covers the protective tape (Material No.VU1-0119) or the riveter tape (Material No.VU1-0120) on the hoist point fasteners.
(f) Apply the vinyl duc tape (Material No.VU1-0118) to the exhaust vent near the holes at the bottom of the lipskin.
(g) Apply three layers of theV02-178 masking tape to the inner and outer barrel assemblies to provide protection from overspray.
1 Apply the second and the third layers with a small overlap of the layer before it.
(h) Install the COVER - PROTECTION on the fan blades and the adjacent components to provide protection from overspray.
(5) Apply the protective coating on the air intake cowl lipskin:
(a) Before you apply the basecoat and the topcoat, refer to the instructions of the manufacturer for application and recommended spray equipment.
(b) Spray a 0.004 in. (0.102 mm) layer of theVU4-0051 basecoat, peelable preservation on the lipskin with the spray equipment (Material No.VU10-0060) .
1 Spray theVU4-0051 basecoat, peelable preservation approximately 6 in. (152 mm) to 8 in. (203 mm) from the surface, in a forward to aft direction.
2 Spray the outer edge of the lipskin first, then the inner edge.
(c) Remove the top layer of theV02-178 masking tape before the VU4-0051 basecoat, peelable preservation dries.
(d) Let the layer dry for one hour.
(e) Apply a second layer of theVU4-0051 basecoat, peelable preservation to get a total thickness of 0.008 in. (0.2 mm).
(f) Remove the second layer of theV02-178 masking tape before the VU4-0051 basecoat, peelable preservation dries.
(g) Let the base coat dry until it loses its gloss.
(h) Apply a 0.002 in. (0.1 mm) layer of theVU4-0050 topcoat, water-borne preservation with the spray equipment (Material No.VU10-0060) .
(i) Remove theV02-178 masking tape and the protective covers that you used for overspray protection.
(j) Do not remove the tape on the exhaust holes, inner surface of the lipskin, outer surface of the lipskin or the hoist point fasteners.
(k) Let the protective coating fully cure. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
(6) Examine the protective coating. Make sure that the protective coating is smooth, uniform and continuous.
(7) Continue with the preservation of the engine, nacelle and aircraft as necessary. Refer to ATA Chapters 10 and 71.
(8) Examine the protective coating every 24 hours for the first seven days.
(a) Make sure that the humidity is stable and there is no excessive moisture on the lipskin.
(9) After the first seven days, refer to ATA Chapters 10 and 71 for more inspection intervals.
