A. Cleaning
CAUTION: USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED MATERIALS AND OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURERS. OTHER MATERIALS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION OF THE COMPONENTS AND THE RELATED AREA.
   (1) Cleaning of the leading edge.
     (a) Clean the leading edge surface with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
  • Apply the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to the cloth, not the cloth to the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) . This will prevent the movement of contamination.
  • Carefully clean a small area at a time. Remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) before it becomes dry. Change the lint free cloth frequently to prevent the movement of dirt from the cloth to the surface again.
  • If necessary use a soft brush to clean out any holes.
     (b) When the area is clean, wash it with fresh clean water.
     (c) Carefully dry the area with a new and dry lint free cloth.
Subtask 55-32-11-370-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Painting
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
   (1) Do a repair if the paint or primer layers are damaged (Ref. AMM TASK 51-75-12-300-001).
   (2) Treatment before Painting:
CAUTION: DO NOT USE FORCE TO MAKE THE SURFACE SMOOTH. TOO MUCH FORCE WILL CAUSE:
  • DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE
  • DELAMINATION OF THE COMPOSITE STRUCTURE.
     (a) If necessary, carefully clean the surface to be painted with a fine-grade Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) and the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) . Make sure that the primer layer does not show.
     (b) Clean the surface with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a clean lint-free cloth Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
     (c) Remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) before it becomes dry. Do not touch the prepared surface with your hand.
     (d) Apply the Polyurethane Coating-- Erosion Resistant External Structure (Material No.04PAH3) to the prepared area on the vertical stabilizer.
   (3) Treatment before you apply the erosion-protective tape:
     (a) Do a repair if the paint or primer layers are damaged (Ref. AMM TASK 51-75-12-300-001).
   (4) Repair of the erosion-protective tape:
     (a) Apply the new erosion-protective tape Adhesive Film Tape-Erosion Protective Polyurethane - 0.36mm Legacy (Material No.05RQB9) or Adhesive Film Tape-Erosion Protective Polyurethane - 0.36mm - (Material No.05RQB1) to the leading edge surface SRM 517512.
   (5) Application of the bonding and adhesive compound:
     (a) After 1 hour after you applied the erosion-protective tape:
  • Apply a layer of the Epoxy Adhesive-- - Legacy 1 (Material No.05EML9) to the edges of the erosion-protective tape and the leading edge surface.
NOTE: We recommend you to apply the bonding and adhesive compound, but it is not mandatory.
