Prepare THS LE for Paint Application
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING:
PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
WARNING:
YOU MUST PUT ON AND ATTACH A SAFETY HARNESS BEFORE YOU START WORK:
- ON THE THS OR IN THE REAR FUSELAGE
- ON TOP OF THE WINGS OR PYLONS.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACES. THE COMPONENTS ARE MADE OF CARBONFIBER REINFORCED PLASTIC.

A. Depressurize Hydraulic Systems
(1) Depressurize the Green, Yellow and Blue hydraulic systems (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).

C. Install Locking Devices
(1) Put the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING in the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.

D. Safety Precautions
(1) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
(2) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.
(3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) in position at zone 334 for the left hand trimmable horizontal stabilizer leading edge and/or zone 344 for the right hand trimmable horizontal stabilizer leading edge.
4. Procedure(1) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
(2) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.
(3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) in position at zone 334 for the left hand trimmable horizontal stabilizer leading edge and/or zone 344 for the right hand trimmable horizontal stabilizer leading edge.

A. Cleaning.
(3) Carefully dry the area with a new, dry, lint free cloth.
Subtask 55-12-11-370-051-A CAUTION:
USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED MATERIALS AND OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURERS. OTHER MATERIALS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION OF THE COMPONENTS AND THE RELATED AREA.
(1) Clean the leading edge surface with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) . - Apply the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to the cloth, not the cloth to the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) . This will prevent the transfer of contamination.
- Carefully clean a small area at a time and remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) before it becomes dry. Use a new lint free cloth frequently to make sure that the dirt and contamination is not put back on the surface.
- If necessary use a soft brush to clean out any holes.
(3) Carefully dry the area with a new, dry, lint free cloth.
B. Treatment before Painting
(2) If necessary, carefully smooth the surface to be painted with a Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) . Make sure that the primer layer does not show.
(3) Remove the abrasive grit and clean the surface with a new Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(4) Remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) before it becomes dry, make sure you do not touch the prepared surface with your hand.
(5) Apply paint to the prepared area on the THS LE (Ref. AMM TASK 51-75-12-300-001).
5. Close-upNOTE: Only the leading edge areas not covered by the stainless steel anti-erosion sections are painted. The stainless steel anti-erosion sections are not painted.
(1) If the paint or primer layers are damaged do a repair (Ref. AMM TASK 51-75-12-300-001). (2) If necessary, carefully smooth the surface to be painted with a Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) . Make sure that the primer layer does not show.
(3) Remove the abrasive grit and clean the surface with a new Abrasive-- Scotch Brite Pads - (Material No.14FAB1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(4) Remove the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) before it becomes dry, make sure you do not touch the prepared surface with your hand.
(5) Apply paint to the prepared area on the THS LE (Ref. AMM TASK 51-75-12-300-001).

(2) Remove the access platform(s).
