A. Prepare the Composite Material Surfaces for Repair
WARNING: DO NOT APPLY ADHESIVE TAPE ON THE PROBES, DUCTS, SENSORS (STATIC, PITOT, TAT, AOA). USE ONLY THE SPECIFIED TOOLS FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE SPECIFIED TOOLS:
  • GIVE THE CORRECT PROTECTION TO THE AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT,
  • ARE EASY TO SEE FROM THE GROUND,
  • ARE EASY TO REMOVE.
IF YOU USE TAPE, THERE IS A RISK THAT SOME TAPE, OR ADHESIVE FROM THE TAPE, WILL STAY ON THE PROBES, DUCTS OR SENSORS. THIS CAN CAUSE INCORRECT INDICATIONS ON THE RELATED COCKPIT INSTRUMENTS.
   (1) Cover the area adjacent to the repair area with PAPER - MASKING and TAPE - MASKING.
   (2) Remove the surface protection and up to 50 mm (1.9685 in.) around the repair area with CLOTH-EMERY (GRADE 80) or light grit blast (400-700) micron walnut grit.
   (3) Remove all damaged material but not more than one layer.
   (4) Feather the edges of the undamaged area to give a smooth edge to the repair area.
   (5) Make the repair area smooth with CLOTH-EMERY (GRADE 280) and CLOTH-EMERY (GRADE 400).
   (6) Clean the repair area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
NOTE: Do not pour the vapor degreaser directly on the repair area. Moisten the lint-free cloth with vapor degreaser.
   (7) Remove all loose and unwanted material with a VACUUM CLEANER.
   (8) Clean the repair area with demineralized water and a lint-free cloth.
NOTE: Do not pour demineralized water directly on the repair area. Moisten the lint-free cloth with demineralized water.

A. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
   (3) Make an entry in the aircraft logbook and attach a tag on the captain side stick to tell the crew that:
  • Protection covers/devices have been installed.
