Functional Test of the HPC Stage 10 Solenoid Valve
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the JobThis procedure provides a functional test of the 10th stage (Cabin Air) solenoid valve.
NOTE: The illustrations attached to this procedure show the solenoid valve removed from the mounting bracket. This is for clarity purposes only. There is no need to remove the valve during this procedure.
NOTE: If a nitrogen supply is not available, DRY air is permitted.

A. Safety Precautions
(2) On the AIR COND panel 30VU:
Subtask 36-11-57-010-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: This test requires only one air hose to be connected from the test set. This provides air to move the piston within the solenoid. The test set cannot provide the flow required to simulate HPSOV/PRV sense line flow. A remote nitrogen/dry air source is required for this.
(1) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shut down occured not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure. (2) On the AIR COND panel 30VU:
- make sure that the ENG 1(2) BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the OFF legend is on),
- make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off),
- put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine 1(2).
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system
- make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch is off,
- put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

Subtask 36-11-57-710-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: Do not bend the pneumatic pipes to gain access. If required, release supporting P-clips until the pipe can be moved without undue force.
(1) Cut, discard the lockwire and disconnect the P3 supply connector tube (1) at the solenoid (2). Ensure that sufficient access is afforded to connect the test set hose. (2) Cut, discard the lockwire and disconnect the HPSOV sense line connector (4). Ensure that sufficient access is afforded to connect the FILLING EQUIPMENT - NITROGEN, PRESSURE REGULATED GAGE.
(3) Disconnect the engine electrical connector (3) from the solenoid.
(4) Set TEST SELECT switch (5) to SOLENOID.
(5) Set PRESSURE/VACUUM switch (6) to PRESSURE.
(6) Set SELECT VENT switch (7) to OPEN, then to CLOSE.

B. Test the Stage 10 Air Solenoid Valve (Cabin Air Solenoid)
(1) Set Test Set Power switch (13) to ON. The green CONTINUITY lamp should illuminate. If the CONTINUITY lamp does not illuminate, confirm test set serviceability (User guide troubleshooting section). If the test set is serviceable, replace the solenoid.
(2) Set Test Set POWER switch (13) to OFF. The CONTINUITY lamp should extinguish.
(3) Set Test Set POWER switch (14) to the opposite channel.
(4) Set Test Set CHANNEL switch (13) to ON. The green CONTINUITY lamp should illuminate. If the CONTINUITY lamp does not illuminate, replace the solenoid.
(5) Set Test Set POWER switch (13) to OFF. The CONTINUITY lamp should extinguish.
(7) Pressurize the remote nitrogen supply to 45 psi.
(12) Shut off the remote nitrogen supply.
(13) Set SELECT VENT switch (7) to OPEN. This will vent the excess pressure in the test set.
Subtask 36-11-57-080-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Set Test Set Power switch (13) to ON.
NOTE: When using the hand pump, pause for three seconds after each stroke. This allows the air to flow into the pump valves and makes the task easier.
(6) Operate the Test Set hand pump to attain 25 psi on SOLENOID INPUT pressure gauge. Ensure that the pressure is maintained. (7) Pressurize the remote nitrogen supply to 45 psi.
NOTE: It is acceptable for a very slight leak to be present at the vent (15). A distinct change in flow rate should occur however when Step (9) is performed.
(8) Set Test Set POWER switch (13) to ON. The green CONTINUITY lamp should illuminate. NOTE: When the test set TEST SWITCH (16) is depressed, the pressure indicated on the SOLENOID INPUT gauge will reduce. This is normal.
(9) Depress and hold the Test Set TEST switch (16). - PASS: Air should immediately vent through the exhaust vent (15). This will be heard or felt as the air passes through the vent.
- FAIL: No air passing through the exhaust vent (15). If this occurs, replace the solenoid.
- PASS: Air should immediately stop venting through the exhaust vent (15).
- FAIL: Air continues to vent through the exhaust vent (15). If this occurs, replace the solenoid.
(12) Shut off the remote nitrogen supply.
(13) Set SELECT VENT switch (7) to OPEN. This will vent the excess pressure in the test set.
