Stage 10 Air Solenoid Valve - Valve and Sense Line Purging Procedure
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the JobThis TASK provides a purging procedure for the cabin air (HPC 10th stage bleed) solenoid valve and an alternative purge procedure for the solenoid valve and sense line.
NOTE: If time allows and the C-duct can be opened, it is beneficial if the sense line and solenoid are purged simultaneously.
NOTE: The illustrations attached to this procedure show the solenoid removed from the mounting bracket. This is for clarity purposes only. There is no need to remove the valve during this procedure.
NOTE: If a nitrogen supply is not available, dry air is permitted.

A. Safety Precautions
(2) On the AIR COND panel 30VU:
Subtask 36-11-57-010-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: This procedure requires only one air hose to be connected from the IAE2R19437 TEST SET - BLEED VALVE. This provides air to move the plunger within the solenoid. The test set cannot provide sufficient flow to purge the solenoid and HPSOV/PRV sense line. A remote nitrogen/dry air source is required for this.
(1) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure. (2) On the AIR COND panel 30VU:
- Make sure that the ENG 1(2) BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the OFF legend is on).
- Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the OFF legend is on).
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine 1(2).
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.
- Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

Subtask 36-11-57-080-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: When you operate the hand pump, wait three seconds after each stroke. This allows air to flow into the pump valves and makes the task easier.
(1) Operate the test set hand pump to get a pressure of 25 psi indicated on the SOLENOID INPUT gauge. Make sure that this pressure is maintained. (2) Pressurize the remote nitrogen supply to 45 psi.
(3) Set the POWER switch (13) to ON. The green CONTINUITY lamp should illuminate.
NOTE: When the TEST SWITCH (16) is depressed, the SOLENOID INPUT gauge pressure will reduce to a different value. This is normal.
(4) Depress and hold the TEST SWITCH (16). Air should immediately vent through the exhaust vent (15). Continue to keep the TEST SWITCH pressed for approximately two minutes to make sure that sufficient purging flow passes through the valve. (5) Release the TEST SWITCH (16). Air should immediately stop venting through the exhaust vent (15).
(6) Set the POWER switch (13) to OFF. The CONTINUITY lamp should extinguish.
(7) Shut off the remote nitrogen supply.
