Installation of the ACT Fuel Transfer-Valve

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 28-28-33-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) When you do maintenance work on the fuel system you must obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) Make sure that the aircraft electrical circuits are energized.
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (3) On the APU section of overhead panel 25VU, make sure that the APU/MASTER SW pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
   (4) On the FUEL section of panel 40VU, make sure that all the L TK PUMPS and R TK PUMPS pushbutton switches are released (the OFF legends are on).
   (5) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position:
  • On the APU section of overhead panel 25VU to tell persons not to operate the APU/MASTER SW pushbutton switch
  • On the FUEL section of panel 40VU to tell persons not to operate the fuel system
  • On the ENG/APU FIRE panel on overhead panel 20VU to tell persons not to operate the fire extinguishing system.
  • On the Additional Center Tank (ACT) section of control panel 28VU to tell persons not to operate the fuel system.
   (6) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate the MLG doors.
   (7) Make sure that the fuel center tank is defueled (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (8) Make sure that the right MLG door is open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
   (9) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) is in position at the right MLG door.
   (10) Make sure that the ACT transfer-valve actuator is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 28-28-53-000-001).
   (11) Make sure that access cover 148AZ is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).
   (12) Make sure that the CONTAINER 1 L (1/4 USGAL) is in position below the valve.

4. Procedure
Subtask 28-28-33-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Transfer Valve
   (1) Preparation before Installation
     (a) Apply Turbine Fuel-- Kerosene - (Material No.01ABA1) on the new packings (2).
     (b) Install the AIPC 28-28-05-06-110 PACKINGS (2) on the valve (9).
     (c) Apply Silicone base Grease-General Purpose - - (Material No.
03JBA1) on the shaft end of the valve (9).
   (2) Install the valve (9) on the lines (1) and (4).
NOTE: Make sure that the valve (9) is in the closed position.
     (a) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
     (b) Play at the connections between the lines (1) and (4) will help you connect the lines to the valve (9).
     (c) Install the new AIPC 28-28-05-03-020 O-RING (10) in the groove of the valve (9).
     (d) Install the new
AIPC 28-28-33-01-010 O-RING (12) in the groove of the valve (9).
     (e) Install the screws (11) and tighten.
     (f) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.
06ABA1) on the head of the screws.
     (g) Tighten the nuts (3) with your hand.
     (h) Install the bonding straps (7) with the bolts (5), the washers (6) and the nuts (8).
     (i) TORQUE the nuts (8) to between 0.17 and 0.13 m.daN (15.04 and 11.50 lbf.in ) T.
     (j) Do a check of the electrical bonding (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
Subtask 28-28-33-420-050-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the ACT Fuel Transfer-Valve
   (1) Apply Silicone base Grease-General Purpose - - (Material No.03JBA1) on the new AIPC 28-28-85-06-110 O-RINGS (3) and the new AIPC 28-28-85-03-020 O-RING (11).
   (2) Install the new
AIPC 28-28-85-06-110 O-RINGS (3) on the ACT fuel transfer-valve (10).
   (3) Install the new
AIPC 28-28-85-06-130 RETAINING RINGS (2)AIPC 28-28-85-06-250 RETAINING RINGS (2) in the ACT fuel transfer-valve (10).
   (4) Apply Silicone base Grease-General Purpose - - (Material No.
03JBA1) on the shaft end of the ACT fuel transfer-valve (10).
   (5) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) on the heads of the screws (12).
   (6) Install the ACT fuel transfer-valve (10) on the lines (1) and (5). Make sure that the ACT fuel transfer-valve (10) is in the closed position.
NOTE: The play at the connections between the lines (1) and (5) will help you to connect the lines to the ACT fuel transfer-valve (10).
   (7) Remove the PLUG-BLANKING from each disconnected line end.
   (8) Install the new AIPC 28-28-85-03-020 O-RING (11) in the groove of the ACT fuel transfer-valve (10).
   (9) Put the ACT fuel transfer-valve (10) in position on the structure.
   (10) Install the screws (12).
   (11) TORQUE the screws (12) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in )
T.
   (12) Install the bonding straps (8) with the bolts (6), the washers (7) and the nuts (9).
   (13) TORQUE the nuts (9) to between 0.17 and 0.13 m.daN (15.04 and 11.50 lbf.in )
T.
   (14) Do a check of the electrical bonding (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).

B. Install the ACT transfer-valve actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 28-28-53-400-001).

   (1) Make sure that there are no unwanted objects and materials, tools or other equipment in the center tank.
   (2) Install access cover 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-400-001).

E. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Refuel, defuel or transfer fuel as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003), (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-869-001).

F. Operational Test
   (1) Do an operational test of the ACT fuel transfer-valve (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-710-006).
   (2) Make sure that there is no leakage at the valve (9) and the connections between lines (1) and (4).

F. Operational Test
   (1) Do an operational test of the ACT fuel transfer-valve (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-710-006).
   (2) Make sure that there is no leakage at the ACT fuel transfer-valve (10) and the connections between the lines (1) and (5).
5. Close-up

A. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the container.
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).

B. Close Access
   (1) Close the right MLG door (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).
   (2) De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
