1. Reason for the Job
To make sure that the tank venting system is serviceable and is not blocked.
NOTE: For the New Engine Option (NEO) aircraft with an Additional Center Tank (ACT) installed in the forward cargo compartment, the term ACT FWD can also be described as ACT 4.1.

   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (3) On fuel control panel 40VU and refuel/defuel control panel 800VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the refuel/defuel system.
   (4) In the cockpit, put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.

A. Safety Precautions

   (1) Defuel the applicable fuel tank(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (2) Drain the remaining fuel from the applicable fuel tank(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003).

B. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Defuel the applicable fuel tank(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
   (2) Drain the remaining fuel from the applicable fuel tank(s), (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-003) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-005).

C. Get Access
   (1) Remove all of the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002).
   (2) Safety open the applicable spring-loaded surge-door 540BZ 640BZ with the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS).
   (3) Remove the NACA vent intake (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-000-001).
   (4) Remove the access panels 147AZ 148AZ (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).

C. Get Access
   (1) Remove all of the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002).
   (2) Safety open the applicable spring-loaded surge-door 540BZ 640BZ with the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS).
   (3) Remove the NACA vent intake (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-000-001).
   (4) Remove the access panel 148AZ and the ACT-Equipment Support Door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).
   (5) Open the aft cargo door 826 to get access to the ACT.
   (6) Remove the manhole cover of the ACT (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-001).

C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable wing.
   (2) Remove all the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002).
   (3) Remove the applicable RIB2 access panels that follow:
   (4) Remove the NACA vent intake (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-000-001).
   (5) Remove the applicable access cover 147AZ ( 148AZ) (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).
Subtask 28-12-00-010-050-M ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable wing.
   (2) Remove all the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002).
   (3) Remove the applicable RIB2 access panels that follow:
   (4) Remove the NACA vent intake (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-000-001).
   (5) Remove access cover 148AZ and the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).
   (6) Remove the applicable ACT(s):
NOTE: It is recommended that you remove the ACT from the aircraft to do a visual inspection of the equipment from the inner side of the ACT.
     (a) Remove the manhole covers of the applicable ACT(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-004).
Subtask 28-12-00-010-050-N ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below the applicable wing.
   (2) Remove all the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002).
   (3) Remove the applicable RIB2 access panels that follow:
   (4) Remove the NACA vent intake (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-000-001).
   (5) Remove access cover 148AZ and the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).
   (6) Remove the applicable ACT(s):
NOTE: It is recommended that you remove the ACT from the aircraft to do a visual inspection of the equipment from the inner side of the ACT.
     (a) Remove the manhole covers of the applicable ACT(s) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-004).

D. Get Access
   (1) Remove all of the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 57-27-11-000-002).
   (2) Safety open the applicable spring-loaded surge-door 540BZ 640BZ with the 98D57004014000 HOOK-COVER (RIB2-SURGE DOORS).
   (3) Remove the NACA vent intake (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-000-001).
   (4) Remove access panel 148AZ and the ACT-equipment support door (Ref. AMM TASK 57-17-11-000-001).
   (5) Open the aft cargo door 826 to get access to the ACT(s).
   (6) If ACT1 is installed:
     (a) For access to the ACT components, remove the ACT manhole cover (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-001).
   (7) If ACT2 is installed:
     (a) For access to the ACT components:
       1 Remove ACT2 to give access to the manhole cover on the rear wall of ACT1 and ACT2 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-001).
       2 Remove the manhole covers of ACT1 and ACT2 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-002).
4. Procedure

A. Inspection of the Tank Venting System

F Refuel Spill Pipe - Location and Detail ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F Tank Venting System ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the open end of the center-tank vent-pipe at the aircraft centerline. The pipe must not be blocked.
   (2) Do a visual inspection of the open end of the wing-tank vent-inlet-duct located outboard of STA700/RIB2. The pipe must not be blocked.
   (3) Do a visual inspection of the open end of the wing-tank vent-duct and the center-tank vent-pipe. They are installed outboard of STA11664/RIB22. They must not be blocked.
   (4) Do a visual inspection of:
  • The complete wing-tank vent-duct and the wing-tank vent-inlet-duct
  • The complete center-tank vent-pipe.
    There must be no:
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
    Make sure that the ducts and the pipe are correctly sealed along their length.
   (5) Do a visual inspection of the vent pipe outboard of STA8268/RIB15. There must be no:
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
   (6) Do a visual inspection of the surge-tank vent-duct outboard of STA12277/RIB23. There must be no:
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
   (7) Do a visual inspection of the rubber check valves:
  • One installed in the center-tank vent-pipe inboard of STA0/RIB1
  • One installed in the wing-tank vent-inlet-duct outboard of STA700/RIB2
  • One installed in the vent pipe outboard of STA 8268/RIB15
  • One installed at the end of the wing-tank vent-duct inboard of STA700/RIB2
  • One installed in the spill pipe outboard of STA 8268/RIB15.
    Make sure that the valves:
  • Are not blocked
  • Will open and close correctly
  • Are attached correctly
  • Are not damaged
  • Are not corroded
  • Are closed.
    Make sure that the front edge of the check valve is horizontal.


   (8) Do a visual inspection of the overpressure protectors 46QM(47QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-41-200-003), 96QM (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-41-200-002), 102QM(103QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-41-200-001) and the overpressure protector outlets (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-46-200-001).
   (9) Do a visual inspection of the vent float valves:
  • One installed outboard of STA8268/RIB15
  • One installed inboard of STA8268/RIB15.
    Make sure that:
  • The valve will operate correctly
  • The valve plate will operate correctly
  • The valve closes correctly
  • There is no corrosion
  • There are no cracks
  • There are no large dents
  • There is no distortion.
   (10) Do a visual inspection of the spill pipe outboard of STA 7316/RIB13. There must be no:
  • Damage
  • Blockage
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
   (11) Do a visual inspection of the spill pipe diffusers installed outboard of STA 7316/RIB13. There must be no:
  • Damage
  • Blockage
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
   (12) Make sure that all of the bonding straps are correctly installed and attached (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (13) Do a visual inspection of the NACA vent intake (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-200-001).
Subtask 28-12-00-210-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Inspection of the Tank Venting System

F Tank Venting System ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Make a visual inspection of the open end of the center-tank vent-pipe at the aircraft centerline. The pipe must not be blocked.
   (2) Make a visual inspection of the open end of the wing-tank vent-inlet-duct located outboard of RIB2. The pipe must not be blocked.
   (3) Make a visual inspection of the open end of the wing-tank vent-duct and the center-tank vent-pipe. They are installed outboard of RIB22. They must not be blocked.
   (4) Make a visual inspection of:
  • The complete wing-tank vent-duct and the wing-tank vent-inlet-duct
  • The complete center-tank vent-pipe.
    There must be no:
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
    Make sure that the ducts and the pipe are correctly sealed along their length.
   (5) Make a visual inspection of the surge-tank vent-duct outboard of RIB23. There must be no:
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
   (6) Make a visual inspection of the rubber check valves:
  • One installed in the center-tank vent-pipe inboard of RIB1
  • One installed in the wing-tank vent-inlet-duct outboard of RIB2
  • One installed at the end of the wing-tank vent-duct inboard of RIB2.
    Make sure that the valves:
  • Are not blocked
  • Will open and close correctly
  • Are attached correctly
  • Are not damaged
  • Are not corroded
  • Are closed.
    Make sure that the front edge of the check valve is horizontal.


   (7) Make a visual inspection of the overpressure protectors 46QM(47QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-41-200-003), 96QM (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-41-200-002) and the overpressure protector outlets (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-46-200-001).
   (8) Make a visual inspection of the vent float valves 212QM(213QM). The float vent valves are installed inboard of RIB22.
Make sure that:
  • The valve will operate correctly
  • The valve plate will operate correctly
  • The valve closes correctly
  • There is no corrosion
  • There are no cracks
  • There are no large dents
  • There is no distortion.
   (9) Make a visual inspection of the clack valves 214QM(215QM) and 216QM(217QM). The clack valves are installed inboard of RIB22.
Make sure that:
  • The valve will operate correctly
  • The valve flap will operate correctly
  • The valve closes correctly
  • There is no corrosion
  • There are no cracks
  • There are no large dents
  • There is no distortion.
   (10) Make sure that all of the bonding straps are correctly installed and attached (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (11) Make a visual inspection of the NACA vent intake (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-200-001).

A. Inspection of the Tank Venting System

   (1) Make a visual inspection of the open end of the center-tank vent-pipe at the aircraft centerline. The pipe must not be blocked.
   (2) Make a visual inspection of the open end of the wing-tank vent-inlet-duct located outboard of RIB2. The pipe must not be blocked.
   (3) Make a visual inspection of the open end of the wing-tank vent-duct and the center-tank vent-pipe. They are installed outboard of RIB22. They must not be blocked.
   (4) Make a visual inspection of the open end of the ACT vent pipe. The ACT vent pipe is in the center tank. The pipe must not be blocked.
   (5) Make a visual inspection of the open end of the ACT vent pipe. The ACT vent pipe is in the ACT. The pipe must not be blocked.
   (6) Make a visual inspection of:
  • The complete wing-tank vent-duct and the wing-tank vent-inlet-duct
  • The complete center-tank vent-pipe.
    There must be no:
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
Make sure that the ducts and the pipe are correctly sealed along their length.
   (7) Make a visual inspection of the surge-tank vent-duct outboard of RIB23. There must be no:
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
   (8) Make a visual inspection of the rubber check valves:
  • One installed in the center-tank vent-pipe inboard of RIB1
  • One installed in the wing-tank vent-inlet-duct outboard of RIB2
  • One installed at the end of the wing-tank vent-duct inboard of RIB2
  • One installed at the end of the ACT vent pipe in the ACT.
    Make sure that the valves:
  • Are not blocked
  • Will open and close correctly
  • Are attached correctly
  • Are not damaged
  • Are not corroded
  • Are closed.
    Make sure that the front edge of the check valve is horizontal.


   (9) Make a visual inspection of the overpressure protectors 46QM(47QM) (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-41-200-003), 96QM (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-41-200-002) and the overpressure protector outlets (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-46-200-001).
   (10) Make a visual inspection of the overpressure protector 170QM1 in the ACT.
Make sure that:
  • The burst disc is not broken.
    There must be no:
  • Large dents
  • Cracks
  • Distortion
  • Corrosion.
   (11) Make a visual inspection of the vent float valves 212QM(213QM). The float vent valves are installed inboard of RIB22.
Make sure that:
  • The valve will operate correctly
  • The valve plate will operate correctly
  • The valve closes correctly
  • There is no corrosion
  • There are no cracks
  • There are no large dents
  • There is no distortion.
   (12) Make a visual inspection of the clack valves 214QM(215QM) and 216QM(217QM). The clack valves are installed inboard of RIB22.
Make sure that:
  • The valve will operate correctly
  • The valve flap will operate correctly
  • The valve closes correctly
  • There is no corrosion
  • There are no cracks
  • There are no large dents
  • there is no distortion.
   (13) Make sure that all of the bonding straps are correctly installed and attached (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (14) Make a visual inspection of the NACA vent intake (Ref. AMM TASK 28-12-47-200-001).
   (15) Make a visual inspection of the inward pressure relief valve 172QM1.
Make sure that:
  • There is no corrosion
  • There are no cracks
  • There are no large dents
  • There is no distortion.
   (16) Make a visual inspection of the ACT vent pipe.
Make sure that:
  • There is no corrosion
  • There are no cracks
  • There are no large dents
  • There is no distortion.

   (1) Make a visual inspection of the open end of the center-tank vent-pipe at the aircraft centerline. The pipe must not be blocked.
