Installation of the Blade Seal of the Outboard Flap

   (2) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate:
  • The flight controls
  • The hydraulic system.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Make sure that the flaps are fully extended (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-008).
   (2) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is installed on the slat/flap control lever.

D. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is below the applicable outboard flap.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE TASKS ON THE WING TRAILING EDGE:
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE RACEWAYS.
  • DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CABLE INSTALLATIONS.
  • MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY. INCORRECT INSTALLATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) If necessary, remove the sealant from the cover strip (2) and the outboard flap (6) with a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
   (2) Clean the component interface and/or the adjacent area with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (3) Clean the screws (3) and (5) with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner_- Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone - (Material No.08BBF1) .
   (4) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (5) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.

B. Installation of the Blade Seal of the Outboard Flap
   (1) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) to the screws (3) and (5).
   (2) Put the blade seal (1) and the cover strip (2) on the outboard end of the outboard flap (6). After installation of these items, hold them in position for the next step.
   (3) Install the screws (3), (4) and (5).
   (4) Do the adjustment of the blade seal (1):
     (a) Make sure that dimension M is between 27.4 mm (1.08 in.) and 39.4 mm (1.55 in.).
     (b) Make sure that dimension N is 8 mm (0.31 in.).
     (c) If necessary, loosen the screws (3), (4) and (5) and move the blade seal (1) until dimension N is 8 mm (0.31 in.).
   (5) Tighten the screws (3), (4) and (5) until the blade seal (1) is compressed but not out of shape.
   (6) Apply a bead of the Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Fillet - (Material No.06ABB1) between the cover strip (2) and the outboard flap (6).

   (2) Remove the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION from the slat/flap control lever.
   (3) Fully retract the flaps (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).

   (1) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (2) Remove the safety barriers.
