Removal of the Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) Cooling Oil-out Tubes and Hoses
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
WARNING:
WEAR GOGGLES, INSULATED GLOVES AND OTHER PROTECTIVE CLOTHES.
HOT OIL CAN BURN YOUR EYES AND SKIN.
IF OIL TOUCHES YOUR EYES OR SKIN, GET MEDICAL AID.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET ENGINE FUEL OR OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL OR OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL OR OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occured not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(2) On the panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine 1(2).
(3) On the panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to power supply the FADEC system.
Subtask 24-21-49-865-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occured not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(2) On the panel 115VU:

(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):

A. Depressurization of the IDG case
(2) Remove the dust cap from the overflow drain half-coupling.
(3) Connect the overflow drain hose of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL to the overflow drain half-coupling. Oil can come out of the overflow drain hose of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL from the overflow drain half-coupling.
(4) Disconnect the overflow drain hose of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL from the overflow drain half-coupling.
(5) Install the dust cap on the overflow drain half-coupling.
Subtask 24-21-49-020-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
YOU MUST PUT THE DRAIN HOSE INTO A CONTAINER BEFORE YOU CONNECT THE DRAIN HOSE TO THE OVERFLOW DRAIN HALF-COUPLING. MAKE SURE THAT THE DRAIN HOSE HANGS DOWN VERTICALLY AND THE END OF THE HOSE IS ABOVE THE OIL LEVEL IN THE CONTAINER. WHEN YOU CONNECT THE DRAIN HOSE TO THE IDG, YOU RELEASE THE OIL PRESSURE AND OIL WILL SPRAY FROM THE DRAIN HOSE.
(1) Put a CONTAINER 4 L (1 USGAL) in position under the IDG. (2) Remove the dust cap from the overflow drain half-coupling.
(3) Connect the overflow drain hose of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL to the overflow drain half-coupling. Oil can come out of the overflow drain hose of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL from the overflow drain half-coupling.
(4) Disconnect the overflow drain hose of the FILLING EQUIPMENT - TANK OIL from the overflow drain half-coupling.
(5) Install the dust cap on the overflow drain half-coupling.
B. Removal of the oil-out hose from the IDG
(2) Disconnect the oil-out hose (50) from the IDG (60).
(5) Remove the oil-out hose (50) from the engine.
Subtask 24-21-49-020-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
(1) Put the CONTAINER 4 L (1 USGAL) below the hoses on the IDG to catch the oil when the hoses are disconnected. - ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
- ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
(2) Disconnect the oil-out hose (50) from the IDG (60).
NOTE: Use a second wrench to hold the union on the IDG when you loosen the hose (50) coupling nut.
(3) Disconnect the oil-out hose (50) from the lower oil-out tube (40). NOTE: Use a second wrench to hold the fitting on the tube (40) when you loosen the hose (50) coupling nut.
(4) Put COVER - PROTECTION on the union on the IDG and the two ends of the oil-out hose (50). (5) Remove the oil-out hose (50) from the engine.
C. Removal of the lower oil-out tube assembly
(2) Remove the screw (15), washer (30), nut (35) that attach the clampshell (20) to the channel.
(3) Disconnect the lower oil-out tube (40) from the upper oil-out tube (5).
(5) Remove the lower oil-out tube (40) from the engine.
Subtask 24-21-49-020-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
(1) Remove the screws (15) that attach the clampshells (20) to the engine brackets at Sta. 158 (B1). (two locations). - ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
- ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
(2) Remove the screw (15), washer (30), nut (35) that attach the clampshell (20) to the channel.
(3) Disconnect the lower oil-out tube (40) from the upper oil-out tube (5).
NOTE: Use a second wrench to hold the fitting on the tube (5) when you loosen the tube (40) coupling nut.
(4) Put COVER - PROTECTION on the two ends of the lower oil-out tube (40). (5) Remove the lower oil-out tube (40) from the engine.
D. Removal of the Upper Oil-out Tube-Assembly
(2) Loosen the coupling nut of the upper oil-out tube (5). When you do this, use a second wrench to hold the fitting on the oil-in port of the IDG oil cooler.
(3) Disconnect the upper oil-out tube (5) of the IDG from the oil-in port of the IDG oil cooler.
(4) Put the COVER - PROTECTION on the IDG oil-cooler fitting and on the two ends of the upper oil-out tube.
(5) Remove the upper oil-out tube (5) from the engine.
CAUTION:
USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
(1) Remove the screws (15) that attach the clampshell (20) to the channel. - ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
- ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
(2) Loosen the coupling nut of the upper oil-out tube (5). When you do this, use a second wrench to hold the fitting on the oil-in port of the IDG oil cooler.
(3) Disconnect the upper oil-out tube (5) of the IDG from the oil-in port of the IDG oil cooler.
(4) Put the COVER - PROTECTION on the IDG oil-cooler fitting and on the two ends of the upper oil-out tube.
(5) Remove the upper oil-out tube (5) from the engine.
