Marking of the Unions after Application of Standard or Specific Tightening Torque


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
1. Reason for the Job
After you tighten a union on a line or a pipe or a hose, you must identify it with a painted line:
  • This is to identify a tightened union
  • This is to show possible loosening of the union.

A. System Configuration
   (1) Before you do this procedure, make sure that:
     (a) You have tightened the related union to the applicable torque value.
     (b) You have done the applicable leakage test.
4. Procedure
Subtask 20-23-22-918-050-A
A. Marking of the Unions in the Hydraulic System
   (1) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the surfaces on which you will make marks.
NOTE: If you install components again, it is necessary to remove the remaining painted line before you paint a new line.
   (2) Paint one line with a width of 2 mm (0.0787 in.) to 4 mm (0.1575 in.) on the union with the PAINTBRUSH and Varnish Polyurethane-- Marking Structure (Material No.04SAB2) .
The Airbus recommended color is the red color. If the red color is not available, apply a different color included in the Consumable Material List (CML) that has a good contrast with the union color.
NOTE: The union marking is not applicable in the fuel tanks.
   (3) Let it dry.
   (4) Apply Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Material No.12ACB1) on the cadmium-plated steel unions.

B. Marking of the Unions for Pneumatic Sense Line
   (1) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the surfaces on which you will make marks.
NOTE: If you install components again, it is necessary to remove the remaining painted line before you paint a new line.
   (2) Paint one line with a width of 2 mm (0.0787 in.) to 4 mm (0.1575 in.) on the union with the PAINTBRUSH and Varnish Polyurethane-- Marking Structure (Material No.04SAB2) .
The Airbus recommended color is the red color. If the red color is not available, apply a different color included in the CML that has a good contrast with the union color.
NOTE: It is permitted to make a mark on the unions in the fuel tanks if sealant applied on these unions. It is not permitted to make a mark on the unions directly touch the fuel.
   (3) Let it dry.

C. Marking of the Unions in the Oxygen System
   (1) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the surfaces on which you will make marks.
NOTE: If you install components again, it is necessary to remove the remaining painted line before you paint a new line.
   (2) Paint one line with a width of 2 mm (0.0787 in.) to 4 mm (0.1575 in.) on the union with the PAINTBRUSH and Varnish Polyurethane-- Marking Structure (Material No.04SAB2) .
